Mexican Interjet to Replace its Domestic Fleet with SSJ-100s

MEXICO, February 27 (RIA Novosti) - Mexico's Interjet airline plans to replace its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, used for domestic flights, with Russia’s Sukhoi Superjet 100 airliners within a two-year term, Interjet’s Director General Jose Luis Garza said.

According to Garza, his company intends to receive at least eight Russia’s SSJ-100s by the end of the year and the rest of the 20 aircraft, stipulated by earlier agreements with Russia, in 2014.

“We will already receive the first two aircraft in June and will put them into operation in July,” he said.

In January 2012, SuperJet International signed a $650 million contract to supply Interjet with 15 SSJ-100s. Later that year, Interjet signed a contract to purchase five more SSJ-100s.

The Superjet 100 is a short-medium haul passenger aircraft developed by Sukhoi in cooperation with U.S. and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell.

The aircraft is capable of carrying up to 100 passengers for up to 4,500 kilometers.
