Dominican Wings takes delivery of maiden aircraft

Dominican Wings (Santo Domingo Las Américas) took delivery of its maiden aircraft, an A320-200, on Sunday, May 3 following a ferry flight routed Budapest-Reykjavik Keflavik-Montréal Mirabel-Santo Domingo Las Américas Skyliner Aviation has reported.

Formerly LY-VEP (cn 561) with its Lithuanian parent Avion Express (X9, Vilnius), HI-968 will be used to complete the carrier's certification with the Dominican Republic's national aeronautical watchdog (Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil - IDAC), estimated to be completed by the middle of this month.

The start-up, which secured its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the Dominican Republic's civil aviation authority (Junta de Aviación Civil de la República Dominicana - JAC) late last year, has revised its launch plans with charter flights to neighbouring Trinidad now on the cards.

The Arecoa news outlet quotes president Eddy Tineo as saying Dominican Wings is still in negotiations with Argentine tour operators over planned flights from Buenos Aires Ezeiza to Punta Cana and Puerto Plata during the Southern Hemisphere's summer season later this year.
