Hong Kong Airlines has ventured into the Australian market with the introduction on 8 January of a new service which operates from Hong Kong (HKG) to Gold Coast (OOL), then to Cairns (CNS) and back to Hong Kong.

The thrice-weekly service is operated by the airline’s A330-300s. Competition is provided by Cathay Pacific Airways which operates four times weekly on the Cairns route. Gold Coast Airport COO Marion Charlton, said: “Over the last few years, the Gold Coast Airport has seen a steady increase in Chinese passenger numbers, and this trend is expected to continue into the future, as the Gold Coast continues to be internationally recognised as a premier travel destination. The commencement of these services is testament to the confidence the Chinese travel industry have in the Gold Coast as a destination able to deliver world-class experiences for their customers. We are hopeful that the success of these services will lead to a year-round service with Hong Kong Airlines into the Gold Coast.
