Tamale, Ghana opens to international traffic

Tamale Airport, serving the Northern Region of Ghana, has begun international operations following its first Hajj charter flights operated by flynas (XY, Riyadh) last week.

As Ghana's second international gateway after Accra Kotoka International, Tamale now features an extended 3,940metre-long runway, a complete lighting system to handle night-time operations, and immigration facilities.

As such, the advent of international flights is part of government's longterm plan to develop the airport into an aerotropolis catering to the region's burgeoning horticulture industries.

At present, the only known scheduled operators to serve the airfield are local carriers Africa World Airlines (AW, Accra) and Starbow Airlines (S9, Accra) which both offer flights to Accra.
