FLEET - Cambodia Angkor Air Expands Fleet with Three ATR 72-600

New Aircraft to Enhance Cambodia Angkor Air’s Domestic and International Services

Toulouse, 10 December 2024 – ATR, the world’s leading manufacturer of regional aircraft, announced today the addition of three ATR 72-600 aircraft to the fleet of Cambodia Angkor Air (which will change its name to Air Cambodia as of January 1, 2025), the country’s national carrier. These aircraft, purchased by HNCAL (HNCA Aviation Financial Leasing Co., Ltd.), a prominent Chinese lessor and subsidiary of HNCA (Henan Civil Aviation Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd), are leased to Cambodia Angkor Air, supporting the airline’s strategy to bolster both domestic and regional routes in Cambodia. Deliveries are scheduled in 2025.

This agreement not only strengthens Sino-Cambodian aviation ties, it also reinforces Cambodia Angkor Air’s commitment to expanding its fleet and highlights the ATR 72-600’s role in connecting key tourism destinations and improving transport infrastructure within Cambodia. The ATR fleet expansion aligns with the Cambodian government’s plans to develop additional airports and promote regional air connectivity, particularly through high-demand routes that ensure efficient and reliable travel.

Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, Chief Executive Officer at ATR, commented: “Our partnership with Cambodia Angkor Air and HNCA is a testament to ATR’s dedication to providing advanced, efficient, and low-emission aircraft that are well-suited to the unique demands of regional markets. The ATR 72-600 will allow Cambodia Angkor Air to enhance its domestic services and strengthen links across South-East Asia, ensuring connectivity for people and businesses alike.”

Mr. Zhan David, Vice Chairman and CEO of Cambodia Angkor Air (K6), added: “Today marks a significant milestone for Cambodia Angkor Air as we expand our fleet with the addition of three ATR 72-600. This partnership with ATR and HNCA underscores our commitment to providing our passengers with reliable and modern air travel options. We are excited about the opportunities this new fleet will bring, enhancing our connectivity both domestically and internationally while supporting the growth of the Cambodian aviation industry.”

By enhancing Cambodia Angkor Air’s capacity, ATR strengthens its footprint in the Asian market, bringing advanced and versatile aircraft that meet the needs of evolving regional networks. This expansion paves the way for increased domestic traffic and connectivity, key priorities for both ATR and Cambodia Angkor Air.

PARIS AIR SHOW 2023 - Mandarin Airlines expands fleet with 6 ATR 72-600

Le Bourget, 20 June 2023 – Mandarin Airlines, the regional subsidiary of Taiwan flag carrier China Airlines, and the world’s number one regional aircraft manufacturer ATR, today announced the signature of a firm order for six ATR 72-600 to be delivered from end 2023 through to 2025. The turboprops will join the airline’s existing fleet of nine ATR 72-600 to serve the demand of the Taiwanese market.

With its main base in the Taipei Songshan airport, Mandarin Airlines operates a domestic network and provides essential connectivity to eight destinations, including the islands of Kinmen, Magong, and more recently Matsu. Mandarin Airlines also serves regional destinations in Asia and China.

“Expanding our ATR fleet will enable us to add capacity on existing routes and create new services to continue stimulating the local economy and tourism across Taiwan with the lowest emission regional aircraft”, said Kao Shing-Hwang, Chairman of Mandarin Airlines. “The unbeatable fuel efficiency of the ATR 72-600, further reinforced by the new PW127XT engine certified for 50% SAF blend, along with its versatility and comfort, make it possible for us to offer our passengers comfortable, reliable, affordable and responsible air services.”

ATR delivers first ATR 72-600 to Air Corsica with brand new PW127XT engine

Toulouse, 29 November 2022 – The world’s number one regional aircraft manufacturer ATR, today delivers the first ATR 72-600 with the brand new PW127XT engine to launch customer Air Corsica.

Following a firm order for five new ATR 72-600, announced a year ago at the Dubai Airshow, this delivery marks an important step in Air Corsica’s fleet upgrade and sustainable development, ensuring the airline will continue to fulfill its public service mission with the most economical, reliable and responsible aircraft on the market.

A clear testament of ATR’s commitment to investing in technology that brings affordable and sustainable regional mobility, the new PW127XT engine offers a 20% reduction in maintenance costs and a 3% improvement in fuel consumption compared to the PW127M – which means -45% fuel burn and CO2 emissions compared to similar-size regional jets.

Air Corsica’s passengers will benefit from high cabin comfort and further innovation as the aircraft will be equipped with USB ports for charging electronic devices during the flight – a first in ATR cabins.

The airline will also be optimising the maintenance of its entire ATR fleet through a 12-year Global Maintenance Agreement. This pay-by-the-hour contract covers the repair, overhaul and pooling services of Line Replaceable Units, and includes the propellers, landing gears and leading edges availability and maintenance, plus a long-term price agreement for the provision of over 2,000 spare parts.

Marie-Hélène Casanova-Servas, President of Air Corsica’s Supervisory Board, commented: “ATRs are central to our model of air travel in Corsica. They have proven to be the right product for our short-haul operations, enabling us to limit our impact on the island’s pristine environment and to meet our passengers’ demand for quick, frequent, reliable, and yet lower emission, air travel. Selecting both the latest generation turboprop, the newest engine on the market to equip it, and the best maintenance programme to optimise its reliability, makes perfect business sense, and moreover, is the most responsible choice.”

ATR Chief Executive Officer Nathalie Tarnaud Laude said: “Air Corsica and ATR have grown together ever since their first ATR flight in 1990. Over decades they have shown commitment to flying the latest technology and most responsible aircraft available. As our product evolves to meet new market needs and incorporates further innovations, it remains the most reliable, efficient, cost-effective aircraft on the market, as well as the most sustainable platform to operate regional routes. This makes ATR and Air Corsica a perfect match.”

Increasing fuel prices, growing carbon taxation, as well as greater passenger demand for lower emission travel all mean that the aviation industry is naturally favouring low-carbon emitting

aircraft such as ATR turboprops. Studies show that, even today, if all regional jets in Europe were replaced by turboprops, the reduction of CO2 emissions would be equivalent to the amount of CO2 removed by a forest of around 5000 km2 – approximately the surface covered by forests in Corsica.

Alliance Air to connect challenging airfields of the Himalayas with two brand new ATR 42-600

The 50-seaters will be leased via TrueNoord who confirms confidence in long-term value of ATR products

Singapore Airshow, February 15, 2022 – Market-leading aircraft manufacturer ATR and Alliance Air, the only Indian public airline, have signed a deal to acquire two ATR 42-600 via lessor TrueNoord. These new aircraft will support Alliance Air’s mission of serving challenging airfields in the Himalayas. The first deliveries to Alliance Air will start mid 2022.

The former regional subsidiary of Air India, which already operates 18 ATR 72-600, has chosen to complement its fleet with brand new ATR 42s as their unique credentials, both in terms of versatility and economics, make it the perfect aircraft to serve even the least accessible regions of India. The aircraft will be able to operate on the short runways of the Shimla and Kullu airports, both located at high altitudes, and exposed to high temperatures.

Vineet Sood, Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Air, said: “Our relationship with ATR started 20 years ago, and ever since we have been building a network that truly serves Indian communities, delivering comfortable, reliable and affordable air services. Thanks to the unique features of the ATR 42-600, Alliance Air will proudly fulfill the mission assigned by the Indian government to make the most inaccessible regions accessible.”

The high commonality between the ATR 72 and 42 will help make the introduction of this new aircraft type seamless. The airline will also continue to benefit from the manufacturer’s pay-by-the-hour maintenance programme, the ATR GMA, to optimise its operations and maintenance activities.

ATR CEO Stefano Bortoli said: “Renewed confidence from a historical customer is the best recognition of the efforts we are making every day to remain at the higher edge of technology whilst providing concrete solutions to operate the aircraft with the most sustainable business model. The fact that we will deliver the aircraft by the middle of this year is testament both to the recovery of the Indian domestic market and the essential need for affordable and reliable connectivity throughout the country.”

In 2021, 40 new routes were created in India with ATR aircraft.

Carst Lindeboom, Sales Director Asia Pacific at TrueNoord, added: “We are proud to be a strategic partner in enabling vital and essential connections to be made throughout India. With this new acquisition, we are firmly establishing the whole ATR family as a cornerstone of our portfolio of modern regional aircraft, and demonstrating our confidence in their long-term value.”

These are the third and fourth ATR 42 aircraft that TrueNoord is introducing into its fleet, as in December 2021, the lessor bought two ATR 42-600 to support Silver Airways’ development in the United States.

NEWS ATR: DUBAI AIR SHOW

Afrijet Continues to Evolve its Fleet Towards the ATR 72-600

Gabonese airline continues to enlarge its domestic and regional network with efficient and versatile regional turboprops

• Afrijet will eventually operate fleet of four ATR 72-600 aircraft for its regular service

• CEMAC region airline intends to grow network and increase frequency

Dubai Airshow, November 16, 2021 – ATR finalises the sale of three ATR 72-600 aircraft to Central African airline Afrijet who will use the aircraft to replace part of its ATR 72-500 fleet. From the second aircraft onwards, these ATR 72-600 will be equipped with the latest generation P&WC engine, the PW127XT-M, which delivers increased efficiency and burns less fuel. The deal is further proof of the ATR’s effectiveness at growing regional routes and networks, thanks to its cost-effective operations. Afrijet initially started with pre-owned ATR aircraft and then moved to a leased ATR 72-600 in 2020. This direct acquisition of brand new aircraft will increase the -600 fleet size to four ATR 72-600, allowing the opening of new routes and increasing frequency.

Regional connectivity has been shown to have a significant impact on local economies, with an increase of 10% in regional flights potentially leading to a 6% growth in regional GDP. The ATR is a proven route opener thanks to its operational efficiency and versatility, burning over 40% less fuel and therefore emitting 40% less CO2 than a regional jet.

Afrijet CEO, Mark Gaffajoli, remarked: “To be effective in Africa an aircraft has to be cost-efficient, reliable and operationally versatile. We need these new ATR aircraft, as creating connectivity in the Gulf of Guinea is vital for the boom in trade and community intergration in the CEMAC zone. As an operator in Equatorial Africa, home of the second largest forest in the world, we are proud to be preparing to invest in a device with a low carbon footprint and a controlled and predictable ecological impact.”

Stefano Bortoli, CEO of ATR, said: “Afrijet continues to trust ATR with its business and we are always proud to see an airline move from a legacy ATR fleet, to introducing the latest generation aircraft and then ultimately purchasing a new fleet. Being in the position to do this during such challenging times really shows that Afrijet has an excellent strategy and business model that they are delivering very well. It also shows that the ATR is the perfect aircraft with which to deliver regional connectivity in Africa.”

Toki Air signs Letter of Intent with ATR to improve regional connectivity in Japan

Toki Air set to become first Japanese airline to introduce ATR 42-600S in Japan

Dubai Airshow, November 16, 2021 – ATR, the world number one regional aircraft manufacturer, has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Toki Air, a new regional commercial airline in Japan that will operate out of Niigata airport. The cooperation with ATR will help Toki Air to achieve its higher purpose of revitalising the city of Niigata, by increasing mobility within and between surrounding regions.

Through this LoI, ATR and Toki Air are engaging in consultations to add ATR 42 aircraft to the airline’s fleet and introduce the ATR 42-600S variant – for STOL, Short Take-Off and Landing. This new version of the ATR 42-600, currently under development, will offer take-off and landing capabilities on runways as short as 800 meters with 40 passengers on board in standard flight conditions. First deliveries are expected for the beginning of 2025.

Toki Air has already signed a lease agreement for two ATR 72-600 that will start operating in 2022. Toki Air and ATR have been working closely together on identifying the best routes for the aircraft, developing an airline business model that maximises the various advantages that ATR aircraft have to offer. The airline has chosen ATR turboprops for their compatibility with regional connectivity in a country like Japan, as well as their operational efficiency that allows for reduced CO2 emissions and cost-effective air travel. Toki Air will also be the first Japanese operator to introduce ATR’s Cargo Flex solution into their fleet, and this will help them to adjust to any fluctuations in passenger/cargo demand.

Stefano Bortoli, ATR Chief Executive Officer, commented: “The ATR 42-600S version is a vital tool to expand the horizons of many remote communities around the world, and it is particularly true in Japan. Air routes constitute an essential part of the archipelago’s domestic travel and transportation and we know how difficult it is to ensure these links in a sustainable way. With the ATR 42-600S, we strongly believe we can offer the right solution to Japan’s requirements, now and in the future.”

In addition to Niigata airport, Toki Air will also operate to and from Sado Airport, located on Sado Island, off the coast of Niigata. The main challenge is to take off and land on its short runway, which measures only 890 meters – for which the ATR 42-600S would be a perfect fit. The purchase of ATR 42-600S would make Toki Air the first Japanese airline to operate this type of aircraft, positioning them as pioneers in the regional aviation network in Japan.

TAROM orders ATR72-600s

During the Dubai Air Show, ATR announced that it has signed a firm order with TAROM for three ATR72-600s. The three additional aircraft will be used to replace older ATR42/72-500s in the fleet and will take the total ATR72-600s to seven.

This order is, however, not really a new order, as the airline announced in 2019 it signed a lease-agreement with Nordic Aviation Capital for nine ATR72-600s. Of this deal, TAROM took delivery of four ATR72-600s and decided to cancel the commitment to five more due to the Corona-pandemic. Now, it seems they will source the three aircraft directly from ATR as part of the lease-cancellation.

Binter orders additional ATR72-600s

ATR and Binter announced during the Dubai Air Show that they signed an order for four additional ATR72-600s. The company also secured an option on one more ATR72. With this order, Binter has ordered a total of 23 ATR72-600s.

Bestfly leases additional aircraft

During the Dubai Air Show, lessor ACIA Aero and Bestfly announced the companies signed a lease-agreement for one additional ATR72-600 and an ERJ190. Bestfly also said they plan to lease four more ERJ190s with the lessor in 2022.

Bestfly is Angola's largest private air company, operating a fleet of bizjets, as well as two ATR72-600s. Recently, it also started-up Bestfly Cape Verde, which is also flying an ATR72-600. The additional aircraft will be used to expand its operations, both in Angola as well as Cape Verde.

SKY express to Begin Fleet Modernisation with ATR 72-600

Greek airline to optimise connectivity to islands with sustainable regional turboprop

Toulouse, July 1, 2021 – Market-leading turboprop manufacturer ATR and Greek airline SKY express today announce the delivery of an ATR 72-600 aircraft. This deal represents a new country of operations for the ATR 72-600 which is currently flying in over 50 countries around the world. With a fleet of 10 ATR -500 series aircraft, the airline has opted to continue its long relationship with ATR for its fleet modernisation project. When the ATR 72-600 enters into service later this month, it will be the first step in ensuring continued and sustainable operations to Greece’s many islands.

In the context of the aviation industry’s collective goal of decarbonisation and with many communities reliant on air links to supply essential connectivity, ATR aircraft represent the ideal solution to creating a more sustainable industry. The ATR 72-600 burns up to 40% less fuel and emits up to 40% less CO2 than a similarly-sized regional jet. In 2019, this advantage allowed it to become the first aircraft eligible for Green Financing loans.

SKY express President of the Board of Directors, Theodoros Krokidas remarked: “We are delighted to be introducing the ATR 72-600 into our fleet. In today’s context, it is more important than ever before to be able to offer our passengers efficient and flexible solutions with the best possible standards of comfort and safety. At SKY express we are committed to contributing to reduce CO2 emissions, and the ATR 72-600 fits perfectly in this strategy. ATR aircraft are well suited to serving islands with their ability to take-off and land from runways other aircraft simply cannot access and this is essential for regional operations in a country such as Greece. We know that when our passengers see this aircraft with its beautiful new livery, they will be looking forward to enjoying the very latest standards of on-board comfort.”

ATR Chief Executive, Stefano Bortoli, said: “There is no better solution with which to provide essential links and connectivity than an ATR 72-600, which is the sustainable benchmark in regional aviation today. Studies have shown than an increase of 10% in regional flights can lead to a 5% increase in local GDP, proving the value of regional air transportation and the fundamental role of regional connectivity. With many more aircraft needing to be replaced, we hope that airlines all over the world will follow the example set by SKY express and put their faith in turboprop aircraft, which are the economical solution to reducing emissions in aviation.”

The ATR 72-600F will provide cargo operators with advantages of the latest generation market-leading regional turboprop

ATR, the world number one regional aircraft manufacturer, today announces the successful first flight of its new purpose-built regional freighter aircraft. The flight took off at 14:00 from its Saint-Martin site and lasted two hours. During the flight, crew onboard performed a number of tests to measure the new aircraft’s flight envelope and flight performance. The first delivery of this aircraft will be to FedEx Express, the world’s largest cargo airline and express transportation company, who placed a firm order for 30 aircraft, plus 20 options, in November 2017. The arrival of this new freighter further cements ATR’s leadership position in the regional freighter market where ATR cargo aircraft already represent a third of the in-service regional freighter fleet.

The brand new straight-from-factory cargo aircraft will offer a number of unique advantages to operators. With a Large Cargo Door included as part of the original design and the same wide cross section as all ATR aircraft, the freighter will be able to accommodate bulk cargo and industry-standard pallets and containers. The aircraft will also provide operators with the very latest avionics suite, which can be continuously upgraded. This effectively futureproofs the -600F’s state-of-the-art cockpit by allowing cargo airlines to take benefit from future innovations, which will further enhance the aircraft’s efficiency.

Hi Air To Increase Korean Regional Connectivity With Purchase of Two ATR 72 Aircraft

Toulouse, 24 June, 2020 – ATR today announces the sale of two ATR 72-500 aircraft from its asset management portfolio to Hi Air. With this purchase, the South Korean start-up, which began operations in December 2019 will increase its ATR fleet to four. The two additional aircraft will be delivered in August and October. Supported by the superior economics and versatility of the ATR 72, which burns 40% less fuel and emits 40% less CO2 than a comparable regional jet, the airline is already ready to grow its fleet and expand the number of routes it offers. This summer, Hi Air will launch services on five domestic routes, including to the popular tourist destination of Jeju Island. ATR aircraft are proven route openers, having opened 164 routes globally in 2019.

Hi Air’s capacity for growth at this time also illustrates the resilience of the regional aviation market which is likely to make a faster recovery, with domestic short haul routes proving to be the first to resume as countries around the world begin to lift lockdown restrictions. The airline continued to serve passengers during the Covid pandemic, ensuring connectivity to Korean communities. Regional aviation will continue to play an important role for communities and economies worldwide, ensuring vital access for families, businesses and essential supplies – supporting the economic recovery in a Post-Covid19 world.

HyungKwan Youn, Chief Executive Officer of Hi Air remarked: “Selecting the ATR 72 to begin operations has been important for Hi Air’s early success. Launching an airline is hugely challenging. To be successful, new airlines need an aircraft that is efficient, reliable and offers passengers a good in-flight experience. To be in a position already to expand our operations is because the ATR fulfills these criteria. At Hi Air, we believe that increasing regional connectivity in Korea will benefit passengers, communities and businesses and we look forward to continuing this mission with the support of ATR.”

ATR Senior Vice President Commercial, Fabrice Vautier, said: “Regional connectivity is more vital than ever and this is why the regional aviation segment will be resilient. In many countries, we are already seeing that domestic and regional routes are the first to return and in the case of Hi Air they continued to fly. Businesses, governments and people around the world are looking for solutions to this crisis and regional aviation has a key role to play. Our ATR aircraft have the right blend of economics and operational versatility to support airlines. Furthermore, with their advantage in fuel burn and CO2 emissions, they are the perfect solution to help aviation emerge from this global recovery as a more sustainable industry.”

PNG Air Purchases Three ATR 42-600S Aircraft

PNG Air Purchases Three ATR 42-600S Aircraft
Papua New Guinean airline will use short take-off and landing (STOL) version to ensure essential connectivity throughout the region

Singapore, 11 February, 2020 – World number one regional aviation manufacturer ATR today announces an order of three ATR 42-600S aircraft from PNG Air. The deal also means that PNG Air will be a launch customer for the STOL version. The ATR 42-600S will be capable of taking-off from and landing on runways that are as short as 800m in length, with 40 passengers on board in standard flight conditions. Currently operating seven ATR 72-600, the airline has captured over 40% of domestic market share since introducing its ATR -600 fleet in 2015. These three new STOL aircraft will replace PNG Air’s current fleet of ageing STOL turboprops. With many current generation 30-seat STOL aircraft coming to the end of their lifecycles, airlines worldwide must replace these aircraft or the communities that they serve risk losing vital connectivity.

Commenting on the deal Paul Abbot, Chief Executive Officer of PNG Air, said: “Since incorporating the ATR 72-600 into our fleet PNG Air has gone from strength to strength, benefitting from its unrivalled efficiency, as it burns 40% less fuel and emits 40% less CO2 than a similar sized regional jet. When looking at options to replace our existing STOL fleet, the ATR -600 family’s maintenance costs and commonality were hugely attractive. This commonality will lead to greater efficiency in terms of both spare parts and pilot training. We are also looking forward to introducing passengers travelling to and from our destinations with short runways to the comfort of the modern ATR -600 series cabin.”

ATR Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Bortoli, said: “The decision to replace their existing STOL fleet with our ATR 42-600S represents an intelligent acquisition and is a perfect example of why this aircraft is such an important solution for the regional aviation market. People and businesses around the world depend on the connectivity that ATR aircraft provide. Without a viable STOL replacement PNG Air’s passengers would face significant challenges to their way of life. As a successful airline PNG Air have shown that they understand the importance of these links to their passengers and the communities that they serve.”

With this new version, ATR forecasts to expand the addressable market by 25%, targeting new routes and the 30-seater STOL segment. There is a strong interest from airlines for a new 50-seater product capable of operating in more constrained conditions. Close to 500 airports have a runway comprised between 800-1,000m and could welcome the ATR 42-600S. Nearly a third of these runways are in Asia Pacific.

TAROM selects ATR 72-600 to renew its regional fleet

Major fleet upgrade with nine modern turboprops providing increased seat capacity, lowest operating costs and best environmental performance

Toulouse, 26 June, 2019 – TAROM, the Romanian national air carrier, will introduce nine new ATR 72-600 aircraft, the market-leading product of the world’s number one regional aircraft manufacturer, into its fleet. The ATR 72-600 will be leased from NAC, the world’s number one regional aircraft lessor. Deliveries will commence in October 2019 through to 2020.

TAROM has been very successful in its domestic market operations by using ATRs to allow it to compete with low cost carriers. This upgrade will ensure that the airline is equipped with the latest generation of turboprops burning 40% less fuel and emitting 40% less CO2 than regional jets.

New ATRs will offer TAROM an additional 330,000 seats every year at the same operating cost as its previous seat level, improving short haul connectivity in Romania and supporting the development of local and more isolated communities. This will provide TAROM with the possibility to further expand and consolidate their position in the market.

TAROM Chief Executive Officer Madalina Mezei said: “We have selected ATR after a comprehensive review of competing aircraft, with the ATR 72-600s demonstrating they are the best aircraft to meet our ambitious targets regarding efficiency, modern technology and environmental responsibility. With this aircraft, we will be able to develop new routes and increase frequency and seat availability, whilst introducing the highest levels of comfort and the latest technology into our domestic network.”

“We are very proud to welcome TAROM as our newest customer,” said Martin Møller, Chairman of Nordic Aviation Capital “we are confident that the ATR 72-600 aircraft will ensure efficiency in their network for many years to come. We thank TAROM for the confidence they have placed in NAC, and we look forward to building and strengthening our relationship with them in the future.”

Stefano Bortoli, Chief Executive Officer of ATR commented: “TAROM is among Europe’s most experienced ATR operators. We are proud to see this long-time customer renew its partnership with the ATR 72-600, the regional aircraft with the best environmental credentials. TAROM made its selection after a vigorous evaluation and in selecting the ATR 72-600 they chose more efficiency, more flexibility and more capacity, for long-term benefits.”

TAROM and ATR have been working together for 20 years. The Romanian national airline operates a fleet of 25 aircraft, including seven ATR 42-500s and two ATR 72-500s which are now to be traded in for the announced nine 72-600s.

ATR42-600 a soaring success in Yunnan

ATR 42-600 proves its quality in serving high-altitude airports with successful Demo Tour

Kunming, 12 November, 2018 – Franco-Italian turboprop manufacturer ATR today finished the successful demonstration of its 42-600 series aircraft’s high-altitude performance in challenging mountainous environments. The Demo Tour saw the aircraft visit several airports in Yunnan Province, South-Western China, such as Diqing, Lijiang and Kunming. With a specially designed Chinese livery, prominently displaying the words ‘Highland Eagle’ in Mandarin script, the aircraft lived up to its name by taking-off from and landing in Diqing – situated 3,287m, or 10,787 feet, above sea level – the highest-altitude airport that an ATR 42-600 has ever served and for which is it fully certified. Officials and pilots from local airlines were on board throughout the tour to witness firsthand the operational capabilities and the innovation that drives its market-leading performance.

ATR Chief Executive Officer Stefano Bortoli was present to celebrate the achievement and commented that “the ATR 42-600, after arriving in Diqing, has achieved another record, going up to its highest taking-off and landing levels. The fact that it operates perfectly from challenging airfields offering the lowest operational costs, shows that it is the perfect modern solution to enhance China’s regional connectivity. No other regional aircraft in production could regularly serve Diqing in a General Aviation configuration and this highlights its remarkable versatility and performance, even in ‘hot and high’ conditions, surrounded by challenging terrain. I thank all those that have made this demo tour in Yunnan a success.”

The ATR 42-600’s high-altitude performance is complemented by its new Standard 3 avionics suite. Featuring a Required Navigation Performance (RNP-AR) of 0.3/0.3, that offers a guidance precision of 0.3 nautical miles, allowing for a more accurate navigation in take-off and landing phases, a clear operational advantage when serving airports located in mountainous regions. RNP-AR 0.3/0.3 can also offer shorter tracks meaning lower fuel, increased payload through reduced climb gradients requirements, and a decision altitude advantage – allowing pilots to make a decision on landing at a lower altitude – reducing the occurences of flight disruption. Standard 3 avionics offers the option of the Thales Synthetic Vision System that was also demonstrated to guests. Displaying images of terrain from a database, the SVS improves a pilot’s situational awareness during situations of reduced visibility.

ATR estimates that China will need 1,100 turboprop aircraft to serve its developing Regional (300) and General Aviation (800) segments. Regional aircraft currently represent only 2% of China’s fleet, compared with a worldwide average of 25%. As such, regional routes are often operated inefficiently by large jets, which require large subsidies for airlines to break-even while cost efficient turboprop ATR aircraft could provide the perfect solution.

ATR estimates a market of 100 regional turboprop aircraft for Japan up to 2025

A prosperous turboprop environment expected thanks to new regional connections

Tokyo, 15 November 2018 – ATR today presented a product and market update in Tokyo at the occasion of the visit of its new CEO, Stefano Bortoli. Considering market and social-economic trends and developments, ATR estimates a need for around 100 turboprop aircraft up till 2025 to upgrade the existing fleet and especially open up new routes to respond to the need of the continuous tourism development within Japan as well as the further expansion of regional connections.

Stefano Bortoli, CEO of ATR, speaking to a large audience of institutional and industry guests as well as media, said: “Japan values the principles of state-of-the-art technology, efficiency and environmental protection. With its low operating costs, a low environmental footprint and a modern and passenger friendly cabin the ATR -600 series perfectly fit with the needs and expectations of the sophisticated Japanese market. The ATR is now well established in the Japanese regional aviation and we see an important growth potential for next decade. Connecting smaller, isolated communities, increased local tourism and flights to world heritage sites as well as the celebration of two major worldwide sports events will boost regional travel in Japan and ATR is the ideal tool for offering country-wide connectivity.”

ATR is the leading regional aviation manufacturer with over 1700 aircraft sold and more than 200 operators in more than 100 countries. It delivered its 1500th aircraft, an ATR 72-600 to Japan Air Commuter (JAC) last October. The first ATR delivered to Japan was an ATR 42-600 to Amakusa Airlines in 2015.

ATR aircraft have clearly proven its value for opening new routes with an average of about 100 new connections per year and a record of 155 new routes in 2017. Regional jets consumer 80 % more fuel and are 45 percent more expensive to operate than the ATR72-600 and ATR turboprop are capable to operate on short runways that cannot be operated by other regional jet aircraft. Thanks to its efficiency and operational flexibility, ATR are the aircraft of choice of the regional aviation airlines.

ATR makes its comeback to the US

ATR and NAC sign a deal for 15 ATR -600s to be operated by Florida-based carrier Silver Airways

Toulouse, January 22, 2018 – ATR announces its first deal of 2018 which sees the introduction of the

ATR -600 series in the US, to be operated by Silver Airways. The airline will introduce 20 ATR -600 aircraft into its fleet, of which 16 will be ATR 42-600s and four will be ATR 72-600s. This follows a deal between ATR and Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) for the purchase of 15 ATR -600s, of which 12 will be ATR 42-600s and three will be ATR 72-600s. These aircraft, along with five from an existing order between ATR and NAC, will be leased to Silver Airways, making them the first operator of ATR -600 series aircraft in the US.
The aircraft order is also particularly significant given that it commemorates the 100th new aircraft order that NAC has placed with the world’s leading regional aircraft manufacturer. It is further testament to the lessor’s commitment to strengthening its position as the global leader in the regional aircraft leasing space.
The delivery and subsequent entry into service of the first -600 aircraft under the livery of Silver Airways will take place in March of this year. The aircraft, an ATR 42-600, will be configured with 46 seats in a 2-2 seating configuration, with a pitch of up to 32 inches. The remaining deliveries are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2020. Crew training will be conducted by ATR at its new training facility in Miami, which is home to a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for the ATR -600 series aircraft.
The brand new ATR -600s will replace Silver Airways’ existing fleet of 21 Saab 340B turboprops, while increasing the frequency of main routes and opening new air services to destinations in Florida, the southern United States and Caribbean. There are currently 250 turboprop aircraft aged over 15 years old operating in the US which will need to be replaced. The ATR -600 series, with a market share of 75%, the most modern, comfortable cabin in regional aviation and unbeatable economics is the ideal aircraft for airlines to modernise their fleets.
Martin Møller, Chairman of NAC, declared: “The ATR aircraft is firmly established as a cornerstone of NAC’s portfolio of modern regional aircraft. This aircraft type allows us to offer our customers a significant reduction in fuel consumption and one of the most comfortable cabins in its class, through our tailored leasing solutions. We warmly welcome Silver Airways as a new customer and are grateful for the opportunity to have worked closely with the airline to provide an optimal solution to meet their fleet modernisation requirements”.
ATR

Christian Scherer, ATR’s Chief Executive Officer declared: “It is pleasing to celebrate the New Year by announcing a deal that marks ATR’s comeback to the United States and we welcome Silver Airways to our fleet of operators. We also extend our congratulations to NAC with whom we can celebrate another deal. We are excited that passengers in the US will now be able to enjoy flying in a modern turboprop and experience the comfort of the ATR cabin. With the US having lost some 400 regional routes in the last decade we are confident that Silver Airways’ passengers will certainly appreciate the pleasure of flying onboard the ATR -600 instead of the alternative of a very long drive!”

The ATR 72-600 tours West Africa

Toulouse, December 11, 2017– From December 11 to 14, an ATR 72-600 in the colours of Air Sénégal will embark on a demonstration tour in three West African countries. The best-selling regional aircraft in the below-90-seats category will touch down in Bamako (Mali), Accra (Ghana) and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) to complete the first flight demonstration of an ATR -600 series aircraft in West Africa.

This promotional campaign will allow the manufacturer to highlight the many advantages of the ATR 72‑600, which make it the most suitable tool for developing regional connectivity in Africa, especially between capitals and mid-sized cities. The ATR -600 series stands out for its economic performance, with much lower operating costs than its main competitor, translating into savings of around $1 million per aircraft, per year. The ATR 72-600 also offers the lowest fuel consumption in its category, a difference of 40% compared to its principal competitor. The ATR 72-600 is also known for its modern and comfortable cabin interior, as well as for its operational flexibility, which allows it to operate on unpaved runways and in airports with limited infrastructure.

Christian Scherer, ATR's Chief Executive Officer, commented on this demo tour: “With its energy efficiency and its low maintenance and operating costs, the ATR 72-600 perfectly aligns with the needs of airlines operating short-haul flights in Africa. It is a reliable, comfortable aircraft, with cutting-edge navigation technologies, recognised as the most suitable tool to open up new markets. The proof is that ATRs create about a hundred new routes every year around the world. ”

Over the next 20 years, 400 new air routes are expected to be opened in Africa and the Middle East and 300 turboprops should be needed to cover fleet growth, the creation of new routes and the replacement of existing fleets. Moreover, ATR is the only manufacturer to offer an aircraft capable of covering both the 50- and 70-seat segments, therefore making it possible to adapt the aircraft’s capacity to market demand.

Today, about 100 ATRs are operated by 30 airlines in 18 African countries.

IndiGo takes delivery of its first ATR 72-600

The Indian carrier will use its new fleet of ATR -600s to substantially expand its regional network
Toulouse, November 17, 2017 – IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, today took delivery of its very first ATR 72-600. The airline and ATR announced earlier this year an agreement for the acquisition of 50 ATR 72-600s. Today’s delivery represents a major step in the airline’s ambitious plan to further develop its fleet with the introduction of fuel-efficient and cost-effective ATR 72-600s, thus expanding its regional footprint and bringing air connectivity to smaller Indian airports and communities.

The introduction of the new ATR fleet goes in line with the Indian government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme, which aims to boost economic development, employment and tourism by connecting small and remote cities. Under this scheme 100 new airports are expected to be created in the next three years.
The ATR 72-600 is the most popular regional aircraft in its category. Its unbeatable economics and operational versatility at small airfields makes it the perfect tool to support IndiGo’s plans to build its regional network in India. The ATR 72-600s feature seat and trip costs that are respectively 10% and 20% lower than those of other in-production turboprops. They also feature the most modern cabin interiors, specifically designed for ATR by the Italian firm Giugiaro, with thinner seats, larger overhead bins and LED lightening for an optimal passenger experience. With its new ATR 72-600s IndiGo will be able to offer their passengers affordable fares, while opening new routes throughout the country, thus contributing to developing local economies and strengthening social links.

Aditya Ghosh, President of IndiGo, said: “By taking delivery of this first ATR 72-600, we are now one step closer to the launch of our Turboprop operations by the end of this year. We are excited at the opportunity of once again being able to redefine air travel in India by bringing the reliability and efficiency of IndiGo’s operations to towns and regions in our country which so far have been devoid of reliable air service or have been subject to exorbitant air fares. My sincere thanks to the team at ATR. As we say at IndiGo, we are all set and TURBOCHARGED!”.

Christian Scherer, ATR’s Chief Executive Officer, stated: “IndiGo is a much respected airline which pays particular attention to every single detail relating to quality. Today’s delivery to such a renowned airline underlines the quality and the suitability of the ATR -600 and shows why it is unrivalled in the regional market. IndiGo’s choice highlights their commitment to offering passengers only the very best at the lowest cost possible. India’s rapidly expanding domestic market represented close to 100 million passengers last year, and has been steadily growing by more than 20% annually. As the country is expected to become the world’s third largest market by 2020, we are proud of playing a key role in such an expansion of the air connectivity”.
