New aircraft to drive international expansion starting with Delhi , Dubai this fall

TORONTO , July 31, 2015 /CNW/ - Air Canada announced today it has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9, a larger version of the Dreamliner 787-8 already in its fleet that has proven extremely popular with customers with its new international product standard. The Dreamliner is the world's most modern commercial aircraft and the larger 787-9 version's greater range and capacity will enable Air Canada to further expand its international network.

"Air Canada is very excited to take delivery of its first Boeing 787-9. This new aircraft's larger capacity and greater range will accelerate our international expansion strategy and allow us to offer customers more non-stop services to new international destinations. Already, we have announced two new 787-9 routes to Delhi and Dubai from Toronto beginning this fall and as more of these aircraft enter the fleet we will expand our international network even further," said Benjamin Smith , President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada.

The aircraft is due to arrive at Toronto Pearson this evening and the first designated routes for the Boeing 787-9 are non-stop services from Toronto to Delhi beginning November 1, 2015 and to Dubai beginning November 3, 2015 . In the interim, customers will have the opportunity to preview the new aircraft on select flights between Toronto and Vancouver during August and between Toronto and the cities of Munich and Milan during September and October. Future deployments of the 787-9 Dreamliner will be announced as new aircraft enter service.

Air Canada took delivery of its first Dreamliner in May 2014 and will receive a total of 29 new 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft by 2019, in addition to eight 787-8 aircraft already in operation. All Dreamliners will feature Air Canada's redesigned interiors in a three-cabin configuration, including International Business with fully lie-flat seats, Premium Economy and Economy. Air Canada's next generation seatback in-flight entertainment system will be available throughout. The Boeing 787-9 will seat 298 passengers and have a range of 15,372 kilometres, compared with the Boeing 787-8, which is configured to carry 251 passengers with a range of 14,500 kilometres. Jetstar Asia Unveils New A320 in Special SG50 Livery

Jetstar Asia (3K) today unveiled an Airbus A320 aircraft sporting a special "bird" livery to mark the 50th anniversary of Singapore (a celebration known as SG50).
"Look it's a bird, no it's a plane, it's a bird on a plane! Here's introducing Jetstar's brand new livery in celebration of Singapore 50th birthday!" the lowcost carrier said at its official account.
The new livery is inspired by the black naped oriole bird, one of the most common species of birds in Singapore.
Symbolizing strength and determination, the livery is made extra special with 50 everyday heroes who have made a difference in the lives of others.
The A320 will perform its first flight 3K513, departing Singapore at 7:15 p.m. on July 30 and heading toward Bangkok.
Jetstar Asia is the third Singaporebased carrier featuring a special SG50 livery, following Singapore Airlines and Scoot

Emirates Bids Farewell to Its Last Boeing B777-200

Emirates, a global connector of people, places and economies is pursuing an aggressive fleet renewal
programme that ensures it operates one of the world's most modern and efficient fleet of aircraft, with an average age of less than 75 months.
With Emirates taking delivery of 24 new aircraft in 2014/15 and 26 new aircraft planned to enter service this year, retiring older aircraft helps Emirates operate one of the youngest fleets in the skies today. Emirates currently operates 234 all widebody aircraft, across six aircraft types. It is also the world's largest operator of the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
"Our modern and efficient aircraft not only help reduce environmental impact, but also enable Emirates to offer the latest facilities and provide our customers with a better onboard experience as well as the capacity we need to grow our operation. Our investment in modern widebodied aircraft has always been the cornerstone of our strategy and success," said Adel Al Redha, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, Emirates.
With seven aircraft phased out in 2014 and another 10 planned for retirement this year, the Emirates Aircraft Assets team of 35 employees in coordination with other teams are busy around the clock managing the retirement of older Emirates aircraft. This not only includes a significant amount of paperwork and administrative tasks, but also involves returning the aircraft in a similar physical condition to when it was received.
Emirates recently phased out A6EMF, the last remaining Boeing 777-200 from its fleet. The aircraft departed from Dubai International to Arizona via Boston for deregistration on July 14.
Since joining the Emirates fleet in 1996, A6EMF flew an estimated 60 million kilometres (enough to fly to the moon and back nearly 80 times) and transported hundreds of thousands of passengers to destinations as far and wide as Warsaw and Ho Chi Minh City.
Watch the final departure of A6EMF here.
"In order to keep our fleet modern, efficient and appealing to our customers, we phase out some of our older aircraft on a regular basis. So far, in 2014 and 2015 we have phased out three B777200s
and eight A340500s schedule, which is no mean feat in itself. For the year 2015/2016, we're planning a total of 10 phaseouts," says Philip Audsley, Manager, Aircraft Assets.
Depending on the aircraft agreement, Emirates either returns the aircraft to the lessor at the end of the lease term, or presents the aircraft to the market for sale.
"The process of giving back a leased aircraft actually begins up to a year prior to the return of the aircraft, and includes meetings with the leasing company, providing paperwork and service/history records, liaising with the procurement department regarding the high value items fitted to the aircraft (such as landing gears and engines), and multiple physical inspections," Mr. Audsley continued.
Physically, the aircraft goes through a number of processes, including a "debranding" exercise, which includes removing Emirates livery and branding from the aircraft. In effect, the aircraft becomes unrecognisable that it was an Emirates aircraft, apart from the seating and carpet, which remains intact.
Emirates pilot, Captain Constantinos Nicolaou flew A6EMF to its final destination in Arizona.

SunExpress Germany has expanded its route network from Munich with the introduction on 21 July of weekly flights to Ankara

The 1,910-kilometre route to the Turkish capital will be operated just 11 times using the carrier’s 737-800s, with the last flight on 29 September. Competition on the route is provided by Lufthansa which flies double-daily on the airport pair using A321s. This brings to 12 the number of destinations served by the airline from Munich, seven of which are in Turkey. None of these routes are served with more than two weekly flights.
