FLEET - Silk Way West Airlines welcomes third Boeing 777 Freighter to Baku

Silk Way West Airlines is proud to announce the arrival of its third Boeing 777 Freighter at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), marking another milestone in the airline’s strategic fleet renewal program. The aircraft landed in Baku directly from Boeing’s facilities in Seattle, joining the carrier’s growing roster of next-generation freighters.

This delivery is part of Silk Way West Airlines’ order for 10 Boeing 777F aircraft, to be fulfilled by 2030. The new freighters will gradually replace older aircraft in the fleet, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact. This step aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to meet its environmental goals, including reducing carbon emissions and improving fuel efficiency across its operations.

"The arrival of our third Boeing 777F represents another important step in our long-term growth strategy," said Wolfgang Meier, President of Silk Way West Airlines. "By expanding our fleet with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, we are not only enhancing our global service offering but also reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility. This investment supports both our customers’ evolving needs and our vision for sustainable growth in the years ahead."

Founded in 2012 in Baku, at the heart of the Silk Road, Silk Way West Airlines operates hundreds of flights each month to over 40 destinations worldwide. The airline’s current fleet includes Boeing 777F, 747-8F, and 747-400F aircraft, enabling it to carry more than 500,000 tons of cargo annually. The carrier expects the delivery of two Boeing 777F, two Boeing 777-8F, and two Airbus A350F aircraft by 2030, further reinforcing its sustainability and modernization agenda.

NEW LIVERY - Emirates freighter gets decked out in new livery

Emirates SkyCargo has updated one of its most recently delivered freighters with the airline’s new livery.

The Boeing 777 freighter (A6-EFV) was delivered in July 2024 without livery and was deployed immediately to serve “the booming global demand”, the airline said.

However, this week it has rolled out of Emirates Engineering as the first freighter to be decked out in the airline’s new livery. The updated paint job took eight days to complete.

"The biggest change is to the UAE flag on the tailfin, which has been a staple of the Emirates branding since the very beginning," Emirates SkyCargo said in a press release.

"Now, the design is more dynamic and flowing, with 3D effect artwork; likewise, the iconic gold lettering across the main body in English and Arabic is bigger and bolder.

"The Arabic calligraphy on the engines remains, as does the iconic red branding on the aircraft belly, ensuring key elements of the airline’s identity remain consistent."

The new livery was first unveiled in March 2023 and is the third iteration of Emirates’ aircraft brand colours since launch in 1985.

All 10 Boeing 777 freighters in Emirates’ fleet will be gradually scheduled for their paint jobs and new freighters, of which Emirates SkyCargo has 13 on order, will arrive fully decked out on delivery.

Earlier this year, the airline added two more Boeing 747 freighters as it anticipates further demand growth in the air cargo market this year.

Following the addition of the two freighters, Emirates’ all-cargo fleet now consists of 10 Boeing 777Fs and six Boeing 747Fs. It also has 13 more 777Fs on order for delivery over the next two years and is considering an order for next generation 777-8Fs or Airbus A350-1000Fs.

FLEET - Emirates SkyCargo to Expand Fleet, Capacity with Five More Boeing 777 Freighters

PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Emirates SkyCargo today announced an order for five more of the world's largest and longest-range twin-engine freighter, building on its earlier purchase of five 777 Freighters. The latest order, which was finalized in September and listed as unidentified on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website, brings Emirates' order book to 249 Boeing widebody airplanes, including 14 777 Freighters.

As the cargo division of the world's largest international airline, Emirates SkyCargo plans to operate 21 777 Freighters in the coming years ─ nearly doubling its current fleet of 11 freighters as the carrier continues to expand capacity.

"We're investing in new freighter aircraft to meet surging demand and provide our customers around the world with even more flexibility, connectivity and options to leverage market opportunity," said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group. "Demand for Emirates' air cargo services has been booming. This reflects Dubai's growing prominence as a preferred and trusted global logistics hub, and also the success of Emirates SkyCargo's bespoke solutions that address the needs of shippers in different industry sectors."

The 777 Freighter can fly farther (9,200 kilometers / 4,970 nautical miles) and carry more freight (102 tonnes) than any other twin-engine cargo jet today. This capability enables operators to fly more freight on more nonstop routes with better operating economics, connecting high-value cargo markets such as the Middle East with the U.S. and Europe.

"Emirates continues to set the direction for our industry and we deeply appreciate the trust they have placed in the Boeing widebody family to serve as the backbone of their global fleet," said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We are proud to support Emirates SkyCargo's growth as it relies on the performance and versatility of our 777 Freighter to further connect the world."

Boeing's Commercial Market Outlook forecasts an additional 2,845 freighters will enter service over the next 20 years to support growing global trade and e-commerce demand. The 777 Freighter is Boeing's best-selling freighter of all time, with 275 delivered to date. As the market leader in freighter airplanes, Boeing provides more than 90% of the worldwide dedicated freighter capacity, including new production and converted airplanes.

Lufthansa Cargo B777F D-ALFA Sharkskin Technology

By: Oliver Rösler / Lufthansa Cargo

Lufthansa Cargo will begin equipping all Boeing 777 freighters with AeroSHARK from 2023. Innovative surface technology from Lufthansa Technik and BASF improves fuel efficiency and helps achieve sustainability goals.

Lufthansa Cargo's first AeroSHARK-modified Boeing 777 freighter, registered D-ALFA, took off for the first time at 05:07 (CET) on February 3, 2023. Under flight number LH8410, the B777F started from Frankfurt (FRA) to Bengaluru (BLR), from where it will fly on to Chengdu (CTU).

AeroSHARK is a surface film that mimics the microscopic structure of shark skin. Its structure consists of ribs around 50 micrometers in size - so-called riblets. If the flow pattern on the fuselage and engine nacelles of the Boeing 777F is optimized in this way, significant savings in fuel and thus emissions can be achieved. This modification, developed by Lufthansa Technik and BASF, will now gradually be used on Lufthansa Cargo's entire fleet of 777 freighters, making them more fuel-efficient and reducing emissions.

For the modified Boeing 777F, Lufthansa Technik expects fuel savings of slightly more than one percent. Extrapolated to Lufthansa Cargo's entire 777 fleet, this will result in annual savings of more than 4,000 metric tons of kerosene and nearly 13,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to about 53 individual cargo flights from Frankfurt to Shanghai.

"We are proud to be able to operate our entire freighter fleet even more efficiently in the future thanks to Sharkskin technology and to further reduce the carbon footprint of our modern fleet. Our investments for the introduction of AeroSHARK bring us closer to our goal of being 100 percent CO2-neutral in the air by 2050; on the ground, we would like to achieve this goal as early as 2030,” explains Dorothea von Boxberg, Chairwoman of the Executive Board and CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.

In cooperation with BASF, Lufthansa Technik is responsible for the specification of the material, the airworthiness certification and the implementation of the aircraft modifications, which are carried out during regular maintenance layovers. In December of last year, the company obtained a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for two types of Boeing 777 from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), paving the way for the serial application now underway on the 777 freighter fleet.

China Postal Airlines targets US using B777-Fs

China Postal Airlines (CF, Nanjing) has applied to fly property and mail on scheduled and charter services between China and the United States. In a December 16 Department of Transportation (DOT) filing, the airline said it intends to use two new B777-200Fs on flights between Nanjing and Chicago O'Hare and Nanjing and Los Angeles Int'l starting from next year.

The DOT filing identifies the two B777Fs to be used on the China - US country pair as new-build jets B-221X (msn 67763) and B-221Y (msn 67764). China Postal Airlines has already acquired both aircraft, with the first due to arrive at the airline on January 15, 2023, and the second on April 15. The carrier states that it wants to start its Chicago O'Hare flights in August 2023 and the Los Angeles flights in March 2024. Both services will have a technical stop in Anchorage Ted Stevens.

China Postal's Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued air operator's certificate allows the airline to transport cargo and mail between Chinese domestic airports (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and between Chinese domestic and international airports. The airline's filing states that it presently flies to 38 airports across China, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand with a fleet of 30 freighters, including seven B737-300(F)s, eight B737-400(F)s, eight B737-800(BCF)s, and seven B757-200(PCF)s.

"With the introduction of the B777F, China Postal’s capacity will gradually expand in the future. China Postal plans to expand its fleet to 45 aircraft by 2025, and the scale of routes will also continue to expand," the filing noted. China Postal Airlines is wholly owned by China Postal Express and Logistics Co., Ltd., which is 99.9616% owned by China Post Group Co., Ltd, which in turn is owned by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.

DHL Express And Singapore Airlines Partnership Takes Off With New Boeing Freighter Aircraf

DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, has welcomed the arrival of its new Boeing 777 freighter at Singapore Changi Airport. The freighter, which sports a dual DHL-Singapore Airlines (SIA) livery, has a maximum capacity of 102 tonnes. SIA will operate it on routes to the United States of America via South Korea thrice weekly from August 2022.

Mr Robert Hyslop, Executive Vice President for Aviation, DHL Express, said: “Our global DHL Express aviation network consists of a combination of owned and partner airlines, which allows us to respond to increasing customer demand with agility and flexibility. The new Boeing 777 freighter demonstrates our ongoing effort to strengthen our network and adjust flight routes, as well as lower our carbon emissions to achieve greener logistics. Singapore Airlines’ expertise in flight operations will enable us to better meet our customers’ needs in cross-border commerce, as we leverage the strategic location of our South Asia Hub in Singapore.”

Mr Lee Lik Hsin, Executive Vice President Commercial, SIA, said: “SIA’s longstanding partnership with DHL reinforces Singapore’s position as a key air cargo and e-commerce logistics hub, and highlights our firm commitment to our cargo business. Air cargo also plays a vital role in keeping global supply chains open. Apart from supporting the fast-growing e-commerce segment, this new freighter operation provides a foundation to expand the partnership between SIA and DHL in the future.”

Ms Christy Reese, Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Asia Pacific, Boeing, said: “We are thrilled that the partnership between DHL and Singapore Airlines will be predicated on the strength of Boeing 777 Freighters. The versatile 777 Freighter is the world’s largest, most capable twin-engine freighter and can fly long-range trans-Pacific missions in excess of 6,000 nautical miles with 20 percent more payload than other large freighters like the 747-400F. The airplane, which is capable of carrying a maximum payload of 102 tonnes, will deliver superior tonne-per-mile economics for DHL and Singapore Airlines as they look to sustainably address increased demand in the global air freight market.”

In March 2022, DHL Express and SIA signed a Crew and Maintenance agreement to deploy five Boeing 777 freighters. These freighters will be operated by SIA pilots, with the maintenance overseen by SIA.

The second Boeing 777 freighter is slated to enter into service in November 2022, following which both freighters will operate the Singapore-Incheon-Los Angeles-Honolulu-Singapore route six times weekly. The remaining three freighters are planned for delivery throughout 2023. Following this, all five freighters will operate on routes between the United States and Singapore via points in North Asia and Australia.

Singapore Airlines takes delivery of its first B777-200F

Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) has taken delivery of the first of five B777-200Fs due to be operated under a CM agreement with DHL Express.

9V-DHA (msn 67140) was ferried directly from Everett to Singapore Changi on August 3, 2022, but has yet to be deployed into revenue service.

The five Boeing dedicated freighters are due to be based out of Singapore and used on routes to the United States via points in Asia. A second aircraft is scheduled for delivery in October 2022, and the remaining three in 2023.

Singapore Airlines' in-house cargo fleet comprises seven B747-400FSCDs. The partnership with the Singaporean flag carrier is DHL Express's second South-East/East Asian venture. It was a 40% joint-venture partner in Air Hong Kong (LD, Hong Kong Int'l) only for the carrier to be fully acquired by its other shareholder, Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong Int'l), as of January 1, 2019. However, it continues to operate exclusively on behalf of DHL Express. Thailand's K-Mile Asia (8K, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) also operates two B737-400(SF)s, one B737-400(F), and one B737-800(BCF) on behalf of DHL Express.

Despite a rapid recovery in passenger demand, pandemic related lockdowns in China drove Singapore Airlines' cargo revenue for the April-June 2022 quarter down 1.5% to SGD1.096 billion Singaporean dollars (USD794 million).

"While cargo demand from Asia has been recovering, this is being offset by seasonally slower air cargo activity during the summer," it said. "Yields are expected to remain higher than pre-Covid levels in the near to medium term as air cargo capacity remains tight on key trade lanes to and from Asia, particularly between Europe and Asia, amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Changes to the Covid-19 situation in China may also impact the ongoing recovery in the country’s export volumes."

China Airlines and Boeing Announce Order for Four 777 Freighters

Adding efficient, reliable 777 Freighters to carrier's all-Boeing cargo fleet to enable profitable growth

SEATTLE, Jan. 27, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and China Airlines today announced the carrier has ordered four 777 Freighters, adding to its extensive fleet of Boeing airplanes. Valued at $1.4 billion at list prices, the order will enable the airline to capture new market opportunities as global air cargo demand continues to grow.

"The 777 Freighter has played a critical role in our efforts to maintain profitability during the pandemic, and these additional airplanes will be an integral part of our long-term growth strategy," said China Airlines Chairman Hsieh Su-Chien. "We are excited to add more 777 Freighters due to their operational efficiency and reliability. Our fleet modernization program will enable us to deliver added value to our customers, especially as the global supply chain continues to evolve."

The 777 Freighter is the world's largest, most capable twin-engine Freighter. It has a range of 4,970 nautical miles (9,200 km) with a maximum revenue payload of 102 tonnes (224,900 lbs), while contributing to a 17% reduction in fuel use and CO2 emissions per tonne compared to prior generation airplanes. In addition, the 777F will allow China Airlines to make fewer stops on long-haul routes, further reducing associated landing fees and resulting in the lowest trip cost of any large freighter.

"We are thrilled that China Airlines has again selected the 777 Freighter to serve as the backbone of its world-class air cargo fleet," said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing. "The market-leading capabilities of the 777 Freighter provide added capacity, improved efficiency and greater value to China Airlines' customers, enabling the carrier to meet air cargo demand and position itself for long-term growth."

In 2021, China Airlines' air cargo revenue was up 186% above the pre-pandemic year of 2019, which nearly balanced out a 96% drop in passenger revenue. Last year China Airlines Cargo recorded the best year in its history – over TWD 100 billion (USD $3.6 billion) in revenue – by leveraging its existing all-Boeing fleet of (18) 747-400 Freighters and (3) 777 Freighters. With (3) 777 Freighters already on order, China Airlines' 777 Freighter is the perfect complement to the airline's existing 747-400 Freighter fleet, seamlessly accommodating the 3-meter (10-foot) tall pallets and maximizing flexibility for its air cargo operations.
