British Airways setting up new subsidiary for A318 transatlantic flights

British Airways Ltd is a new subsidiary of British Airways plc using an almost identical name. The new subsidiary has started operating BA's A318-100 transatlantic flights betweenLondon City and New York John F. Kennedy International from June 13. It currently operates two daily services on the route with outbound flights stopping at Shannon International as a fuel and US immigration/customs check stop. British Airways has only disclosed "potential new sources of finance" as a reason for the move which could lead to the assumption that a third party is either interested in taking over the operation or investing in it. British Airways has been operating on the route since 2009 with two A318-100s equipped with only 32 seats.
