Delux Public Charter eyes shorthaul commuter flights

Delux Public Charter (Rapid City) has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for authorization to begin scheduled passenger flights.

In its application to operate as an On-Demand Direct Air Carrier, the South Dakota-based start-up said it intends to operate "more than four round trips per week between city pairs" using a fleet of fourERJ-135s leased from parent JetSuite.

"Delux’s initial markets will be cities between 200 and 500 miles of one another, and will serve them where possible via secondary and tertiary airports," the carrier said without specifying which cities it would serve.

Two more ERJ-135s will be used for ad-hoc charter flights.

Delux says it is in the process of securing a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Carrier Certificate and Part 135 operations specifications.
