Iran Air receives its first A330-200 as fleet upgrade continues
Iran Air has taken delivery of its first new A330-200.
The delivery of the aircraft is part of Iran Air’s major fleet renewal plan, and is the first wide body from a firm order placed by the national carrier of Iran in December 2016 for 100 Airbus aircraft (46 single aisle and 54 wide-body jets) to renew and expand its fleet with new aircraft.
Iran Air’s A330-200 features a two class cabin layout, seating 32 passengers in business and 206 in economy.
The delivery, which took place at the Airbus delivery centre in Toulouse, marks yet another milestone for Iran Air, as it celebrates its 56 anniversary since establishment.
The A330 Family includes Freighter, VIP, and has now attracted more than 1,500 orders. Over 1,100 A330 Family aircraft are flying with more than 100 operators worldwide. The A330 is one of the world’s most efficient aircraft with best in class operating economics.
Mahan Air plans Barcelona June 2017 launch
Iranian carrier Mahan Air earlier this month opened reservation for new service to Spain, with the offering of Tehran Imam Khomeini – Barcelona route. From 22JUN17, Airbus A340 aircraft will operate this route twice a week, operating on Thursdays and Sundays.

Aeroflot Group to add 68 aircraft in 2017-2018

Aeroflot Group will expand its fleet by 68 aircraft within the next two years, the group's report says. In 2017 Aeroflot and its subsidiaries Rossiya, Aurora and Pobeda will take delivery of 59 aircraft and phase out 19. In 2018 the carriers will receive another 45 and get rid of 17 airliners.
The aircraft due to arrive in 2017 are 44 narrow-bodies- 11 Airbus A320s, nine A321s and 24 Boeing 737s. At the same time the airline will phase out three А319s, seven А320s, two А321s and five Boeing 737s. The wide-body segment will be expanded by three aircraft: a Boeing 777 and two Boeing 747s. Notably, these are the final deliveries of 747s previously operated by Transaero and transferred to Rossiya by contract with their Russian government-controlled lessors.
Thus, Rossiya's 747 fleet will reach 14 aircraft, in line with what Aeroflot's CEO Vitaliy Saveliev said last month. The group will phase out one Boeing 777.
In the regional segment the group will take delivery of 12 Sukhoi Superjet 100 and phase out one Bombardier DHC-8.
In 2018 the group will start operating a new type, A350 wide-body, with the first batch of five aircraft. Aeroflot will also take delivery of five Boeing 777s in 2017. No long-haul aircraft will be phased out during that period.
In the narrow-body segment the group will take delivery of 27 aircraft - ten А320s, four А321s and 13 Boeing 737s. Seventeen aircraft will be phased out in 2018 - seven А319s, nine А320s and a Boeing 737. Aeroflot will also receive the remaining eight SSJ 100s it has on order.
The report also provides data on the forecast fleet dynamic after 2018. Three aircraft are scheduled to arrive in 2019, whereas 28 will be phased out. The numbers for2020 are two new aircraft to arrive and 18 to leave. These numbers are preliminary.
Last year the group took delivery of 56 aircraft - 14 wide-bodies, 31 narrow-body and 11 regional aircraft. At the same time 23 aircraft left the fleet. The fleet thus was increased by 33 aircraft.Russian Aviation Insider
BOC Aviation Takes Delivery Of 200th Boeing Airplane
BOC Aviation Limited (“BOC Aviation” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce the delivery of its 200th Boeing airplane. The Next Generation 737-800 aircraft was delivered to Lion Air Group and will be operated by its Malaysian affiliate, Malindo Air, based in Kuala Lumpur.
The aircraft will be operated by Malindo to support its network expansion plans in the region including services to Australia.

ARJ21 aircraft completes first passenger flight after C check
Which flies the route of Chengdu-Changsha-Shanghai and carries about 270 person-times of passengers Passengers queued up to board the aircraft on February 14th, 2017.
The first ARJ21 aircraft (Registration No.: B-3321) delivered to Chengdu Airlines was put into route operation to fly to and fro between Chengdu and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport with a stopover at Changsha on February 14th, 2017 after successfully completing the first C check, and carried about 270 person-times of passengers in the whole day. After the aircraft arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, Mr. Zhao Yuerang, Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), entered the cockpit to learn about the operation condition of the aircraft, and had a cordial conversation with the crew.
The dawn was just breaking at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport at 7:00 am, and an airport shuttle bus laden with more than 70 passengers came to the ARJ21 aircraft which would conduct flight EU6667. A few days ago, this aircraft completed the first global C check at Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering Co., Ltd. (STAECO) and was put into route operation. The aircraft took off punctually from Shuangliu Airport at 7:56 on the same day, stopped over at Changsha Huanghua Airport, and successfully arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport at 12:14. After about an hour, the ARJ21 aircraft conducting flight EU6668 took off from Hongqiao Airport, stopped over at Huanghua Airport again, and punctually returned to Shuangliu Airport at 17:55.
"The flight today is very successful, the weather in Changsha and Shanghai is very good, and the passengers have enjoyed the 'appointment' with ARJ21 in the air," Attendant Liu Wanying told the reporter, "During boarding, I saw a female passenger holding a rose and looking around in the cabin curiously. When I explained to her that this is a regional jet independently developed by China, she smiled a bright smile and praised ARJ21."
This ARJ21 aircraft went through the first C check in accordance with the standards of CCAR-145 of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) at STAECO at the end of last year. This C check included not only routine C check maintenance items but also Service Bulletin (SB) retrofit work, which aims to continuously optimize and improve the aircraft and enhance the security, maintainability, economical efficiency and comfortability of the China-made new regional aircraft. The first C check of ARJ21 aircraft was successfully completed on 8th of this month.

Bombardier Delivers the Sixth CS100 Aircraft to SWISS
Bombardier delivered today the sixth CS100 aircraft, the smaller variant game-changing C Series platform, to Swiss. Bombardier has now delivered a total of eight C Series aircraft; six CS100 to SWISS and two CS300 to airBaltic.

Embraer E195-E2 to enter service in 2019 with Azul
Azul Brazilian Airlines will be the first carrier to operate the Embraer E195-E2 in service, the Brazilian manufacturer said.
Azul, which placed the launch order for the E195-E2 at the 2014 Farnborough Airshow, will take delivery of its first of the type in the first half of 2019. Azul has 30 E195-E2s on firm order, plus purchase rights for 20 more.
The São Paulo-based carrier is not a surprise selection to be the launch operator of the E195-E2, which it will configure with 130 seats in a single-class layout. “Azul played a key role in the E195-E2 development, actively participating in the design specification of the aircraft,” Embraer Commercial Aviation president and CEO John Slattery said in a statement.
Azul today operates 73 current-generation E-Jets in its fleet.
The E190-E2 will be the first E2 variant to enter service in 2018 with launch operator Norwegian regional airline Widerøe.
The first E195-E2 prototype rolled out March 7 at Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil.

Lufthansa in yesterday’s schedule update (08MAR17) opened reservation for Airbus A350 operating service on Munich – Mumbai route, set to commence on 15APR17. The A350-900XWB operates once a day, replacing A330-300 (A340-600 operates from 08APR17 to 14APR17, MUC departure).

PIA commits to Turkish Airlines A330 wet-lease
PIA - Pakistan International Airlines (PK, Karachi Int'l) has signed a formal agreement with Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Atatürk) for the wet-lease of A330-300 TC-JOM (msn 1499) on a six-month term.
According to the Pakistan Tribune newspaper, Turkish Airlines offered a rate of USD6,000 per block hour compared to the USD8,100 per block hour charged by SriLankan Airlines (UL, Colombo Int'l) during the lease of A330-300 4R-RLN (msn 1604). The latter's contract ended last month amid controversy that PIA still owed the Sri Lankans arrears of USD3 million.
As it stands, TC-JOM (msn 1499) is set to commence PIA Premier flights between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Royal Flight and Pegas Fly show interest for Il-96-400M airliner

Two Russian charter carriers - Royal Flight and Pegas Fly have expressed interest to acquire the Il-96-400M. This airliner is the passenger version of the upgraded Ilyushin widebody, but the program is yet at an early stage of development. However Royal Flight is ready to consider leasing three aircraft of the type, deputy minister for transport Valeriy Okulov announced this week.
There is a history behind this interest. In April last year Russian lessor Ilyushin Finance Co reported that the carrier had made an inquiry regarding leasing terms for an Il-96-300 previously operated by Aeroflot.
Pegas Fly, in its turn, has requested the detailed specifications, delivery schedule and the price of the aircraft, Okulov said.
"GTLK (the State Transport Leasing Corporation) has elaborated the financial model and calculated the economics of operating these aircraft. Since the four-engine concept is preserved, state support will be required for [commercially viable] operation", vice-minister pointed out. He also mentioned, that Rossiya Special Flight Squadron (which is in charge of carrying the country's top officials) remains the only domestic operator of the type.
Il-96-400M is a stretched and upgraded passenger version of the Il-96 widebody, with preliminary seating capacity of 390 passengers. It will become a transition model before Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation develops new-generation widebody airliner together with China’s COMAC.
Up until now only four Il-96-400 cargo versions of the model have been built and later converted for other missions. The first prototype of the Il-96-400M is preliminarily slated to fly in 2019.
Last year general director of Voronezh-based VASO aircraft production facility, Dmitry Prishvin said that GTLK would receive the first five aircraft scheduled for assembly within 2020-2023 timeframe. They will reportedly operate socially important routes between Moscow and two destinations in Russia's Far East, Vladivostok and Khabarovsk.

Qatar Airways Chief Says Will Not Receive Airbus A320neos in 2017
Qatar Airways will not receive any Airbus A320neo jets this year as it looks to upgrade its order to larger models, the airline's chief executive Akbar Al Baker said on Wednesday.
The Gulf carrier has refused to take deliveries of Airbus A320neos since December 2015 over performance issues with the aircraft's engines.
"I have to scream at Airbus to get my planes faster. I am nearly 8 destinations behind schedule because of delays in aircraft deliveries. I hope this will be resolved during this year," Al Baker told reporters in Berlin.
Qatar Airways is around 10 aircraft short from Airbus at present, including A320neos and wide body A350s, he said.
The Gulf carrier wants to swap its order for 50 A320neo family jets, which includes A319, A320 and A321 versions, for all A321neos.
An Airbus spokesperson told Reuters: "We are working with our customers to deliver aircraft to their full satisfaction."
Al Baker and Airbus separately declined to comment on the status of converting the order.

Tunisair suspends all operations
Tunisair (TU, Tunis) has suspended all operations until further notice. A statement issued to the AFP news agency says the move comes amid growing "tensions" between the airline's pilot corps and technicians which culminated in physical clashes at Tunis Carthage International Airport on the morning of Thursday, March 9.
Tunisair added that it had suspended all flights "in order to preserve the safety of its fleet".
"Due to new tensions between two Tunisair trade unions and the altercation this morning at Tunis-Carthage, the company has decided to stop all flights until further notice," it said.

Volaris in the last week launched three new links between Mexico and the US
On 1 March the LCC launched new links from Mexico City (MEX) to Houston Intercontinental (IAH) and New York JFK (JFK). Both of these routes are already served by Aeromexico, Interjet and one US carrier. The most interesting new route was started on 2 March between Guadalajara (GDL) and Milwaukee (MKE), the carrier’s first service to the Wisconsin airport. It is also the only one of the airline’s three new US routes which does not face any direct competition. With these developments Volaris has grown its share of the Mexico to US market to 9.2% as measured by seat capacity. This ranks the carrier fifth behind American Airlines (20.1%), United Airlines (19.3%), Delta Air Lines (14.1%) and Aeromexico (10.7%), but ahead of Southwest Airlines (6.9%) and Interjet (5.6%).

Orenburzhye Airlines interested in ex-Air Canada’s E190 jets

Orenburg International Airport (owned by the administration of Russia’s Orenburg region) has made an important step towards acquiring Embraer E190 regional jets for its subsidiary Orenburzhye Airlines. Russian Aviation Insider has learned that the company signed a letter of intent with Danish lessor Nordic Aviation Capital.
The airline may receive three E190s previously operated by Air Canada, the industry source familiar with the project explains.
As a rule after an LOI is signed lessor removes the aircraft from the market and airline commences detailed inspection of them. Orenburg Airport did not comment on the expected acquisition.
The acquisition of 100-seat E190s will significantly boost Orenburzhye’s capacity and operational capabilities. The airline now has nine 19-seat Let L-410 UVP-E20 turboprops, five Antonov An-2 piston engine aircraft and three Mil Mi-2 and three Mi-8 helicopters.
Nordic Aviation Capital has one of the largest Embraer aircraft portfolio, which includes 26 E170/175s and 92 E190/195s.
Air Canada is the largest Canadian carrier and one of the leading operators of Embraer E-Jets in the world by average flight time. It formed its fleet of 45 new E190s in the period from 2006 to 2008. In 2015 and last year, the airline phased out 20 of these aircraft, the majority of which are still showcased on the market.

Atrak Air leasing an A321
Atrak Air has added a maiden A321-200 to its fleet of three A320-200s. Skyliner Aviation indicates SX-ABQ (msn 1060) was positioned to Tehran Mehrabad from Athens Int'l last week. The eighteen-year-old twinjet is wet-leased from Greek ACMI/charter specialist Olympus Airways (OLY, Athens Int'l).
Atrak Air currently serves the Iranian cities of Tehran Mehrabad, Bojnord, Ahwaz, Abadan, Kermanshah, Isfahan Int'l, Mashad, and Knish with scheduled passenger flights.

Med-View, Arik Air confirm Kaduna operations
Med-View Airline and Arik Air (W3, Lagos) have confirmed that they will both switch their respective Abuja Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport operations to Kaduna for the duration of the former's closure on account of runway upgrade works.
In a statement, MedView Airline said flights to Abuja from each of Lagos, Maiduguri, and Yola would be switched to Kaduna from March 8. The change is likely to end in mid-April when Abuja reopens to traffic.
Arik Air's Chief Executive Officer, Roy Ilegbodu, said separately his carrier would operate a 3x daily service between Kaduna and Lagos alongside daily flights to Accra, Ghana.

Bangkok, 8th March 2017 - Airbus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thai Airways International (THAI) to evaluate the development of a major new maintenance and overhaul (MRO) facility at U-Tapao International Airport near Bangkok.
The MoU was signed in Bangkok today by Usanee Sangsingkeo, Acting President, Thai Airways International and Fabrice Brégier, President, Airbus Commercial Aircraft. The signing was witnessed by Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand.
The new MRO would be one of the most modern and extensive in the Asia-Pacific region, offering line and heavy maintenance services for a wide range of aircraft types. A new complex would feature the latest digital technologies to analyse aircraft maintenance data, as well as advanced inspection techniques, including the use of drones to monitor aircraft airframes.
The MRO campus would also include specialised repair shops, including a repair centre for composite structures, as well as a maintenance training centre offering extensive courses for technical personnel from Thailand and overseas.
“THAI has been studying the development of a new MRO business with several potential partners and is pleased to have been able to reach this initial agreement with Airbus,” said Usanee Sangsingkeo, Acting President, Thai Airways International. “This facility will be a showcase maintenance hub for the region and will offer its services to airlines across the region and beyond.”
“This exciting new project will help to meet strong demand for maintenance services in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region,” said Fabrice Brégier, President Airbus Commercial Aircraft. “With the fleet in the region set to almost triple to over 15,000 aircraft over the next 20 years, this project represents a sound opportunity for Thailand to develop its footprint in the aerospace sector.”
This Airbus and THAI joint initiative will be a strategic contribution to the Eastern Economic Corridor designed by the Thai Government, in which U-Tapao International Airport is set to become a new aerospace hub in the region.

Brussels Airlines and Tomorrowland create Amare
Thursday, February 23, 2017 — Every summer since 2012, Brussels Airlines flies the world to De Schorre in Boom. With visitors from more than 200 countries gathering for Tomorrowland, this magical music festival is able to call itself the most international gathering in the world. Young people from Swaziland and Sweden to Fiji come together for an unforgettable weekend and friendship without borders. To symbolize this, Brussels Airlines and Tomorrowland created Amare, the fourth aircraft in the airline’s Belgian Icons series. Starting on Friday 24 February, AMARE will be spreading its wings and preparing for an amazing five-year journey spanning the skies over Europe and beyond.
In 2012 Global Journey came into being as Brussels Airlines and Tomorrowland flew in thousands of young people from all over the world to Belgium, not only to enjoy the festival but to discover the rest of the country. Last summer Brussels Airlines flew more than 10,000 People of Tomorrow to Brussels on their 108 Tomorrowland flights. Now, five years after that first cooperation, we have AMARE, who will be bringing people together all over Europe and beyond for five years.
A nine month creation process
It took nine months to finish the creation of AMARE. After an intensive period of sketches, 3D drawings and model building, the design was ready for painting. Eight artists, including a father and son with many years of experience and the Brussels Airlines and Tomorrowland team, worked non-stop for two weeks to airbrush this impressive print onto the Airbus A320. First a gigantic print of the design was created, before being copied onto the airplane, a 37.56 metres long and 11 metres high Airbus, with registration number OO-SNF. After this process, the colours were mixed and the aircraft was painted by hand.
Tomorrow, 24 February, Amare will leave on its maiden voyage to Vienna at 7h10 (flight SN2901). The flight schedule of Amare can be followed on brusselsairlines.com
In order to make flying with Amare a complete experience, special mood lighting is foreseen in the aircraft cabin. To get everyone in the right atmosphere, the Tomorrowland Hymn by Hans Zimmer is played every time travellers board Amare.
Fourth Belgian Icon
Amare is the fourth special livery plane that Brussels Airlines adds to its Belgian Icons series. As an ambassador for Belgium, the airline wants to bring the best of Belgium to the world. In 2014 the company decided to dedicate an aircraft to Tintin. “Rakcham” instantly became one of the most photographed planes in the world. One year later two Belgian Icons were unveiled to the public: Magritte, dedicated to surrealist painter René Magritte, and Trident, the aircraft of the Belgian Red Devils, the Belgian national football team. With Amare, Brussels Airlines now pays tribute to Tomorrowland, which has in fact become a true Belgian Icon.

The airplane now begins system checks, fueling and engine runs on the flight line. Once completed, the airplane will begin flight testing in the coming weeks – the final phase of verification of the operational characteristics and overall performance of a new airplane.

Embraer Rolls Out the E195-E2, the Most Efficient Next-Generation Commercial Jet in the World
“The E195-E2 has the potential to significantly change the fleet profile of airlines around the world. With a 20% lower cost per trip and a cost per seat similar to larger aircraft, the E195-E2 becomes the ideal aircraft for regional business growth as well as low-cost business plans and complementing existing mainline fleets” said John Slattery, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation.
The E195-E2 has three additional rows of seats, when compared to the current generation E195, and it can be configured with 120 seats in two classes of service, or up to 146 in a single class. The aircraft also has a significant increase in range of 450 nautical miles, which allows trips of up to 2,450 nautical miles.
The aircraft has a dedicated wing, with the highest aspect ratio among single-aisle jets, increasing fuel efficiency. In addition to a more balanced specification, Embraer applied over 17 million hours of flight experience on today's E-Jet fleet of over 1,300 units to come up with the optimal E2 design. For example, being designed with an intelligent combination of materials, the E195-E2 can carry 10% more passengers than a direct competitor and still have the same weight.
“We introduced in the proven E-Jets platform all new technologies that would add value to customers. One example is the fourth generation of fly-by-wire, which allowed a 20% reduction of the empennage area, minimizing drag and weight,” explained Luís Carlos Affonso, COO, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “The airplane will save up to 24% in fuel and 20% in maintenance costs per seat, when compared to the current E195. A portion of these savings will be achieved with the new engine technology, but the greatest competitive advantage of the E195-E2 lies in the optimization of its structure and of its various systems.”
Embraer will use two aircraft for the E195-E2 certification campaign. The first prototype will be used for the aerodynamic and performance tests. The second prototype, which will also make its inaugural flight by the end of this year, will be used for the validation of maintenance tasks and of the interior.
Since its launch, the E2 program has reached 690 commitments, 275 of which are firm orders and 415 of which are options and purchase rights, from both airline customers and leasing companies. Currently, the E-Jets are operating with about 70 customers in 50 countries, being the global leader in the segment of aircraft with up to 130 seats, with over 50% market share.
With an investment of USD 1.7 billion, the E2 program was launched in June 2013 and reinforces Embraer's commitment to continuously invest in its commercial aviation products as well as maintain market leadership in the segment of 70 to 130 seats.

Saratov Airlines to acquire a fifth An-148 jet

Russia’s regional carrier Saratov Airlines has decided to sublease yet another Antonov An-148-100B jet from Rossiya Airlines, expanding the carrier's fleet of this type to five, as opposed to the originally planned four. "Saratov buys a fifth An-148, which is planned to join our fleet in the first half of 2017," said a Saratov Airlines spokesperson. "The fifth aircraft will be very actively used, first and foremost on domestic routes throughout Russia."
An industry source familiar with Saratov Airlines told Russian Aviation Insider that the aircraft most likely to handed over from Rossiya is the An-148-100B with serial number RA-61701.
Saratov penned an agreement last year with Rossiya over the sublease of four An-148s, which began operating under Saratov in December.
Saratov Airlines' current An-148-100B jets are operated as follows: two of them, RA-61703 and RA-61705, are in use under the contract with Rosneft oil company, in Krasnoyarsk Krai, in Siberia, according to Flightradar24. A third An-148 (RA-61704) is undergoing finishing maintenance and painting at Voronezh Aircraft Production Association (known as VASO), while the fourth and fifth An-148s are currently being held at Rossiya's base in Pulkovo airport, in St. Petersburg.
Maintenance on the aircraft is carried out independently by Saratov staff, which operates under Russia’s FAP-285 certificate. In addition to its base in Saratov, the carrier has opened a line maintenance station in Yemelyanovo airport, in Krasnoyarsk, and plans to do the same at Pulkovo and Penza.

ANA selects iconic "FLYING HONU" design for special edition A380 on Tokyo-Honolulu route

Known as "Honu" in the Hawaiian language, the green sea turtle is considered a sacred creature, and is widely loved by the people of Hawaii. ANA selected "FLYING HONU" as the nickname to call the special edition aircraft, with the hopes to pass on some of the happiness and luck to its passengers to Hawaii.
ANA Group will be supporting activities in Hawaii to protect the Hawaiian green sea turtle, which is listed by The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a wild animal in danger of extinction.
ANA is moving forward with preparations to offer new passenger services to coincide with the introduction of the A380, and will provide updates as they become available.
