The Completely Full First Air Lituanica Flight to Brussels

On Sunday, the 30th of June, Air Lituanica conducted its very first flight to Brussels. The carrier’s aircraft took off from the runway of the Vilnius International airport at 6:30 pm and reached its destination at 8:05 pm (local time). The first flight was filled by 95% and people remain no less active in booking flight tickets for the upcoming carrier’s flights.

According to the CEO of Air Lituanica Erikas Zubrus, the local market have proven to be very welcoming to the first flights of the Lithuanian airline. “We are very pleased with the fact that more tickets are being sold to foreigners wishing to visit Vilnius rather than Lithuanians travelling abroad. This will undoubtedly have a positive effect on developing tourism and attracting new visitors to the country,” said E.Zubrus.

When greeting the new carrier the Head of Aviation Marketing at Brussels airport Léon Verhallen pointed out that the 6 weekly evening flights from Brussels to Vilnius would guarantee fast, frequent and convenient connections for business and leisure travellers between both cities. “It goes without saying that we are extremely proud that Brussels is the first destination of Air Lituanica,” added L.Verhallen.

The first carrier’s aircraft departure from Brussels was encorted by traditional water cannons used for welcoming new airlines to the airport. There are 65 airlines currently flying to and from the Brussels airport. Together they carry around 1.7 million of passengers each month.

Air Lituanica will operate flights to Brussels every day with the exception of Saturdays and will carry its passengers on the company’s Embraer 170 aircraft. The flights will take off at 6:30 pm and the entire journey will last for 2 hours and 20 minutes. The aircraft will take off from the Brussels airport on a return flight to Vilnius at 8:35 pm.

From the 8th of July the company will also operate daily flights to Amsterdam. The aircraft will leave Vilnius International early in the morning (6:25 am) and take off from Amsterdam at 10 am. A single flight will last for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

On the 5th of August Air Lituanica will launch 4 weekly flights to Berlin and in the upcoming autumn the company will introduce flights to Moscow, Munich and Prague.

Air Lituanica flights are operated in cooperation with Estonian Air.

By 2015 AirLituanica will be carrying passengers on 13-16 routes. The company is set to serve 500-600 air travellers per year and create over 1500 new jobs in Lithuania. 83% of Air Lituanica stock is owned the Vilnius municipal enterprise Start Vilnius UAB whilst the remaining 17% belongs to Air Lituanica Club UAB.
