Boeing Delivers First 787 Dreamliner to Uzbekistan Airways
Delivery flight to bring humanitarian supplies to country in partnership with AmeriCares
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Aug. 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Uzbekistan Airways, the flag carrier of the Republic of Uzbekistan, today celebrated the delivery of the airline's first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
"The delivery of our first Dreamliner marks a new and exciting chapter in our long-standing relationship with Boeing that began back in 1996," said Valeriy Tyan, Director General, Uzbekistan Airways. "We are delighted that as early as in September, passengers of Uzbekistan Airways will be offered a new flight experience and an unmatched level of comfort onboard our Boeing 787 Dreamliner."
"This delivery to Uzbekistan Airways is a remarkable moment in our partnership that has a great value for Boeing," said Marty Bentrott, vice president of Sales, Middle East, Russia and Central Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Today, we are proud not only to have Uzbekistan join our growing base of 787 customers in the region, but also at the airline's continued confidence in Boeing's technology and airplanes over the years."
Uzbekistan Airways' fleet consists of 34 aircraft, including nine Boeing 767 and six Boeing 757 airplanes. From its hub at Tashkent International Airport, the airline flies to more than 40 cities around the world.
This first 787 delivery flight to Tashkent will also bring humanitarian aid to patients in hospitals, mother-child clinics, rehabilitation centers and orphanages. As part of its charitable activity in Uzbekistan, Boeing and Uzbekistan Airlines have partnered with AmeriCares, which supports a broad range of health care institutions throughout the country. The flight is one of the many humanitarian shipments that Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways have undertaken together.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an all-new, super-efficient family of commercial airplanes that brings big-jet ranges and speed to the middle of the market. In response to airlines' overwhelming preference, Boeing designed the 787 family with superior efficiency, which allows airlines to profitably open new routes to fly people directly where they'd like to go in exceptional comfort.
Since entering service in 2011, the 787 family is flying more than 350 routes and has established more than 75 new nonstop routes around the world. To date 66 customers worldwide have placed orders for 1,161 airplanes, making the 787 Dreamliner the fastest selling twin-aisle airplane in Boeing history.

Airbus delivers the Americas’ first A320neo to LATAM Airlines Group
A320neo now operating in three continents
LATAM Airlines Group (LATAM), Latin America’s leading airline group, took delivery of its first A320neo – showcasing its white, indigo and coral livery and powered by Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100-JM engines – on Monday, August 29, at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse. LATAM Airlines Brasil will become the first airline in North and South America, and the fifth operator in the world, to operate the ultra-fuel efficient aircraft type.
Executives from LATAM and Airbus attended a delivery ceremony, which also marked the delivery of LATAM’s fourth A350 XWB -- the first with the airline group’s new brand livery. LATAM was also the Americas’ first A350 XWB operator.
The aircraft is configured in a 174-seat layout with 18” wide seats and equipped with the innovative Space-Flex cabin configuration. LATAM was the first in Latin America to order the A320neo in 2011, shortly after the program was launched. The airline group has a total of 67 A320neo Family aircraft on order.
Initially, LATAM plans to fly its first A320neo on Brazilian domestic routes to Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Campo Grande, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro (Galeão) and São Paulo (Guarulhos). In November, LATAM will begin to fly regional routes throughout South America. The second LATAM A320neo, to be delivered later this year, is also expected to operate regional flights. The airline group has more than 250 Airbus aircraft in operation.
“We are pleased to offer our passengers the opportunity to fly the first A320neo in the Americas,” said Enrique Cueto, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group. “The A320 aircraft family has long served an important role in our fleet, supporting the operation of our unrivalled domestic and regional network in Latin America. With the latest in technology, efficiency and passenger comfort, the A320neo is a welcome addition and will help us to continue to offer one of the most modern and efficient fleets in the industry.”
“Over the years, Airbus and LATAM have grown together to become partners in building today’s dynamic aviation market in Latin America, which is why we are especially proud that the first A320neo in the Americas will be flying in LATAM livery,” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and CEO. “We are certain that this aircraft will complement their existing fleet and further their success in the region.”
The A320neo Family incorporates latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices, which together deliver more than 15 percent in fuel savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020
The A320neo Family is the world’s best-selling single aisle product line with over 4,600 orders from 85 customers since its launch in 2010 capturing almost 60 percent share of the market. Thanks to their widest cabin, all members of the A320neo Family offer unmatched comfort in all classes and Airbus’ 18” wide seats in economy as standard. Including LATAM’s A320neo delivered today, 16 A320neo aircraft have been delivered to five customers.

A New Era in Cuba Travel Begins as JetBlue Lands in Santa Clara With Historic First Flight
JetBlue Becomes the First U.S. Airline to Operate Commercial Service Between U.S. and Cuba in More Than 50 Years
Launch of Service in Santa Clara – JetBlue’s 97th Destination – Is First in Series of Inaugural Flights That Will Position JetBlue as the Preferred Airline for Cuban Travel
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- JetBlue (NASDAQ:JBLU) today made history when it touched down in Santa Clara, Cuba, becoming the first U.S. airline to operate a commercial flight between the two countries in more 50 years. JetBlue flight 387 from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) landed at Abel Santamaría Airport (SNU) just before 11 a.m. local time.

The flight ushers in a new era of affordable and convenient air travel to Cuba, and comes after months of collaboration between JetBlue, U.S. officials, Cuban officials and business partners to resume air service between the two countries.
“We are proud to be the first U.S. airline to serve Cuba, but our focus is on being the best airline serving Cuba,” said Robin Hayes, president and chief executive officer, JetBlue. “This historic flight symbolizes our long-term commitment to provide affordable, award-winning service between Cuba and the U.S. For the first time in decades, families separated by only a short stretch of water can easily and affordably visit a loved one, attend an important occasion or visit a special place – and the role we play speaks directly to our mission of inspiring humanity.”
Hayes, along with JetBlue leadership, government officials from both nations, dignitaries and the first customers, were welcomed in Santa Clara with a water canon salute and a celebration by Cuban officials at the airport located some 160 miles east of Havana.
The occasion marked not only the first U.S. scheduled commercial flight since the 1960s, but also the first time an American carrier has operated a scheduled commercial jetliner between the U.S. and Cuba, as U.S. airlines only flew propeller-powered aircraft to the Caribbean island before the embargo began.
“We commend the incredible and tireless work of both U.S. and Cuban officials for making today possible. We extend our deep appreciation to the Ministry of Transportation, IACC, and the Santa Clara Airport for entrusting us to operate this historic flight and look forward to our long-term partnership as we continue to grow our presence in Cuba. And in the U.S., we congratulate Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and the Department of Transportation, Secretary John Kerry and the Department of State, Secretary Penny Pritzker and the Department of Commerce, and the Obama Administration for their leadership in achieving this historic milestone,” said JetBlue CEO Hayes.

“Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is proud to be the first airport in the United States to offer regularly scheduled commercial service to Cuba,” said Mark Gale, CEO/Director, Broward County Aviation Department. “We look forward to the continued partnership with JetBlue as they continue their growth and success here in Broward County.”

A Third E190-E2 Takes Off in the Air
Another E190-E2, serial number 20.003, took off on its maiden flight last Saturday, August 27, from Embraer's facility in Sao Jose dos Campos. The new E-Jet is the third of four prototypes to join the E190-E2 certification program.
Prototype 20.003 will be used primarily to test flying qualities and evaluate how the aircraft handles in icing conditions.
The first E190-E2 prototype aircraft, serial number 20.001, is currently conducting tests on systems, loads, aero-elasticity, external noise and handling in crosswinds. It first flew on May 23 of this year and made its international début at the Farnborough Air Show in London in mid-July. The second E190-E2 prototype, serial number 20.002, made its inaugural flight on July 8. It is used to test systems and general aircraft performance. These two prototypes have accumulated more than 150 flight hours.
The fourth prototype, serial number 20.004 is scheduled to take flight by early next year. It will feature a production-series, full-cabin interior and will measure comfort and internal noise levels, and be used to conduct specific tests, such as cabin evacuation.
In addition to the flight test campaign, the E190-E2 certification program has accumulated almost 21,000 hours of tests on rigs and the iron bird, and many hours of simulations on the virtual aircraft. The E190-E2 is scheduled to enter service in the first half of 2018.

Russia Proposes Setting Up Il-114-300 Airliner Production in India
Russia has made an offer on setting up the production of Ilyushin Il-114-300 regional airliners at India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) facilities, Russian Deputy Trade Minister Alexander Potapov said Tuesday.
Earlier, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that Russia agreed to take part in the Make in India program during a meeting of the Russian-Indian working group on industrial cooperation.
"We have always talked about the feasibility and readiness to expand cooperation. This also applies to civil aviation. One such project could be the creation of an Indian regional aircraft. In accordance with a request from the Indian side, we sent our proposals on organizing the production of Il-114-300 aircraft at HAL facilities," Potapov said.
Russia's RT-Chemical technologies and composite materials company (JSC RT-Chemcomposite), part of the Rostec state corporation, is also looking into projects on setting up the production of aircraft glazing as well as polymer composite materials for civil aviation in India, he added.
Il-114-300 is a variant of the Ilyushin Il-114 regional airliner fitted with a Klimov TV7-117SM turboprop engine. The Il-114 was developed by Ilyushin Design Bureau in the late 1980s for short-haul flights within the Soviet Union. Since then, 20 planes of this type have been manufactured. Mass production of the plane is expected to start in Russia in 2019.

Jet Airways to delay Dreamliner deliveries
Deliveries unlikely to start in 2017, as previously thought
Jet Airways has asked Boeing to delay the delivery of its 10 B787 Dreamliners, the Economic Times reports.
The Mumbai-based carrier had been due to start receiving the new long-haul aircraft in 2017, but a senior Boeing official told the newspaper that it wishes to postpone the deliveries, as it expects other airlines to return their leased aircraft to Jet earlier than planned.
“Jet Airways has informed us that it does not want to take delivery of the 10 787s as per schedule,” Dinesh Keskar, Boeing’s senior vice president of sales for Asia Pacific was quoted saying. “The move follows its decision to re-take a similar number of 777s from Etihad and Turkish Airlines, which were given on lease by the airline earlier.”
Keskar added that, from Boeing’s perspective, the postponement is “perfectly fine with us”.
Jet ordered the 10 Dreamliners in December 2006. It also has outstanding orders with Boeing for 75 B737 MAX aircraft
