Air Tanzania plots B787-8 fleet growth



The Tanzanian government has announced plans to increase the fleet of flag carrier Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam) by adding one more B787-8, the largest English-language daily The Citizen has reported.

The plans were announced at a press conference by the government spokesperson Hassan Abbas.

The Tanzanian flag carrier has recently taken delivery of its second B787-8. It uses one of the widebody twinjets, 5H-TCJ (msn 66133) to run 3x weekly services from Dar es Salaam to Mumbai Int'l while the other one, 5H-TCG (msn 64249) has been stored since October 31, 2019. Air Tanzania plans to expand its long-haul network to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Guangzhou shortly.

The Tanzanian carrier's fleet also includes two A220-300s, one inactive Dash 8-300, three Dash 8-400s, one inactive Fokker 28-3000, and one inactive Fokker 50.



Abbas confirmed that state-owned lessor TGF - Tanzania Government Flight (Dar es Salaam) has already initiated financing for a further Dash 8-400, recently ordered for Air Tanzania, and two further A220-300s that the carrier has on order. The carrier also has a fifth Dash 8-400 on order.
