Wizz Air ramps up Bari, Italy base


 

Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) will double its capacity by adding a second A321-200NX at its Bari base to open eight new routes from the southern Italian port city from July 1, 2021.

New international services from Bari will include:
2x weekly to London Luton (UK) from July 1, 2021;
3x weekly to Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg, CH (Switzerland) from July 2, 2021;
2x weekly to Ioannina (Corfu, Greece) from July 3, 2021;
1x weekly to Mykonos (Greece) from July 3, 2021;
2x weekly to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion (Israel) from July 3, 2021; and
2x weekly to Abu Dhabi Int'l (UAE) starting on September 21, 2021.

New domestic destination will include:
2x daily to Milan Linate from July 1, 2021;
5x weekly to Venice Treviso from July 1, 2021.

The additional aircraft will boost the capacity of Bari airport by more than 676,000 seats per year while creating 40 direct jobs and more than 500 indirect ones, the airline said in a statement.

Including Bari, Wizz Air operates from four bases in Italy, the others being Milan Malpensa, Palermo, and Catania. The additional aircraft at Bari brings Wizz Air’s fleet in Italy to 12, while the extra routes mean the carrier now operates from 23 Italian airports to 179 destinations, including recently added routes to Bologna and Pisa from Brindisi.

The budget airline operates a fleet of sixteen A321-200NXs, with another 193 of the type on order. It also has twenty A321-200NX(XLR)s on the order book. Its current fleet also consists of thirty-four A321-200s, six A320-200Ns (with thirty-four more on order), and sixty-four A320-200s, according to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module.
