Virgin Australia took delivery of its first Boeing B737MAX at a special ceremony at Seattle-Boeing Field (WA). The aircraft, B737-8 VH-8IA (65045), is leased via CALC and will be ferried to Brisbane. The plane is scheduled to enter commercial service in July and will initially be deployed on the new Cairns to Tokyo-Haneda route.
In the coming five years, Virgin Australia will take delivery of 32 more B737-8s, which will be used to renew and expand its current fleet of nine B737-700s, and 75 B737-800s. Subsidiary Virgin Australia Regional is operating seven Airbus A320s, and seven Fokker 100s.
