Cathay Pacific Expects First Airbus A350 Delivery in Late April
China Aviation Daily
Cathay Pacific's A350 in its new livery.
Cathay Pacific Airways is now expected to take delivery of its first Airbus A350 XWB in late April, due to a cabin product issue, the airline admits in its latest staff newsletter.
"The Cathay team is working closely with Airbus and the product supplier to minimize the risk of any further delays."
The A350's business berths are made by Zodiac Aerospace, which has been struggling to meet delivery schedules.
Delays aside, Cathay Pacific's A350-900 will no doubt take center stage when the airline celebrates its 70th anniversary later in the year.
After several months of regional familiarization operations from Hong Kong to Bangkok, Manila, Osaka, Singapore and Taipei, Cathay Pacific will deploy the A350 jet onto longer-range international routes to Europe.
Besides, London's Gatwick Airport has already been confirmed as an A350 route starting September 2, with Auckland confirmed for the second half of the year.
Cathay Pacific has 22 A350-900s and 26 A350-1000s on order. The airline is due to take delivery of 12 A350-900ss this year and ten more in 2017, to be followed by 26 of the larger and longer-range A350-1000s from 2018.

Shuttle Landing Facility welcomes first commercial service
FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) has become the first commercial carrier to serve the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) located at the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) on Merritt Island in Florida.
The logistics specialist says the arrival of one of its B757-200(F)s at the facility in December last year signified the start of a new collaboration between FedEx and the space industry.
“What we’re going through now is the privatization of space,” said Carl Asmus, FedEx Vice President of Supply Chain Solutions and Market Development. “Private companies are now taking over the exploration of space. This could drastically improve the speed of payload delivery."
FedEx is involved in the transportation of biomedical-related items from various laboratories to the launch site for onward delivery to the International Space Station (ISS). It is also involved in the redelivery of items recovered from the ISS for onward transmission back to their respective centres.
Space Florida took over the management and operations of the SLF under a thirty year lease from NASA (Washington Dulles) last year.
Built in 1974 for space shuttles returning to Kennedy, the SLF opened for flights in 1976. Among its unique features is a 4,572x92m main runway capable of supporting all types and sizes of aircraft and horizontal launch and landing vehicles.

Wheelchair-Bound Passengers Sue Juneyao Airlines After Being Declined Boarding
South China Morning Post |
Two Chinese disabled passengers have sued a mainland airline that stopped them boarding a flight because they were not accompanied by an able-bodied person and were "unable to take care of themselves", mainland media reports.
The lawyer for the two wheelchair-bound passengers, who are paralysed from the waist down, told a lawsuit at a Shanghai court on Wednesday that the case against Juneyao Airlines was a fight not only for their right to travel, but also the right to travel of more than 85 million other disabled mainlanders, news website Thepaper.cn reported on Thursday.
A verdict in the case will be given at a later date.
The court was told that the two passengers were told they could not board the airline's flight from Sanya, on Hainan Island, to Dalian, in Liaoning province last November, the report said.
Despite the two passengers' protests, staff working for the airline then cancelled their tickets and refunded their money.
To reach their final destination they had to take a later flight with another airline to Beijing, and then catch a high-speed train to Dalian.
The lawyer representing Juneyao told the hearing that the company had been willing to compensate the passengers with "generosity", but had declined to agree to the passengers' request for a formal apology.
The report did not say whether the passengers were men or women, or give their ages, or say how much compensation they had demanded.

Celebration marks another triple delivery to airline Dreamliner fleet continues to grow in the Middle East
EVERETT, Wash., Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] and Saudia, Saudi Arabia's national airline, today celebrated the triple delivery of two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and a 777-300ER (Extended Range). A third Dreamliner will be delivered to Saudia within the next week. The airline ordered eight 787-9s in 2010.
Saudia is no stranger to such large deliveries. In December 1999, Boeing delivered three 777s to Saudia.
"The delivery of our first Dreamliners marks yet another exciting chapter in Saudia's long-standing relationship with Boeing that began in the early 1960s," said His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser, Director-General, Saudi Arabian Airlines. "With its reputation for reliability, operational efficiency and comfort, we now look forward to the 787 becoming an integral addition to Saudia's fleet as we continue our fleet modernization and expansion as part of our transformation plans."
The airline will now have 48 Boeing airplanes in its fleet that currently include 777-200ERs, 777-300ERs and 747-400s. Over the last 55 years, Saudia has taken delivery of over 130 Boeing airplanes including 707s, 737s, MD-11Fs, DC-9s and MD90s.
"This delivery to Saudia is an outstanding moment in a partnership that has grown phenomenally over the last several decades," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. "Today, we are proud not only to have Saudia join our growing base of 787 customers in the Middle East, but also at the airline's continued confidence in Boeing's technology and airplanes over the years."
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an all-new, super-efficient family of commercial airplanes that brings big-jet ranges and speed to the middle of the market. In response to airlines' overwhelming preference, Boeing designed the 787 family with superior efficiency, which allows airlines to profitably open new routes to fly people directly where they'd like to go in exceptional comfort.

The delays are related to its business class seats which are manufactured by Zodiac Aerospace; the French firm which is also responsible for outfitting Singapore Airlines' A350s with seats and toilets.
Having experienced a series of delays over the past twelve months, Zodiac's relationships with Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) have deteriorated to such an extent that Fabrice Bregier, the CEO of Airbus, has now negated the firm's eligibility for A330neo cabin fitment contracts.
"We could have delivered fifteen [A350s rather than 14 last year] if we had not been trapped by some cabin elements of the last aircraft of the year," he said. "Last year we suffered a lot with Zodiac. I expect they will manage to do better this year, especially as a lot of A350s are directly linked to their performance on lavatories and seats."
Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) has also been affected with its maiden A350-900 now due to make its commercial debut in late March/April.

Comlux Orders Three Airbus ACJ320neo Aircraft

Comlux has announced a firm order for three Airbus ACJ320neo aircraft, becoming the largest customer for Airbus' new corporate jet family
Comlux The Aviation Group has announced a firm order for three Airbus ACJ320neo aircraft, becoming the largest customer for Airbus' new corporate jet family. The order also consolidates Comlux's leadership in Airbus corporate jet deals, with more to its credit than any other client.
Deliveries of the aircraft begin at the end of 2018. Comlux has chosen CFM International LEAP-1A engines to power the aircraft. Cabin outfitting will be by Comlux America, in Indianapolis, the first independent authorised Airbus corporate jet service centre.
"Comlux is proud to add to its order book the ACJ320neo which, with its new CFMI engines, Sharklets and increased fuel-capacity, brings the extra range that our VVIP clients seek - without compromising on baggage space," says Comlux Group President and CEO Richard Gaona. "With its completion facilities in America, Comlux is well placed to offer its customers unique cabin solutions."
"Comlux's long-established and wide-range of activities - including aircraft management, VVIP charter, and cabin outfitting and services - means that it was well placed to evaluate the new Airbus ACJ320neo Family before making it an important part of its fleet," declares Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers John Leahy.
Comlux has ordered corporate jet versions of all of the ACJ320 Family, and was the first to operate the Airbus ACJ318 and ACJ321.
Airbus' ACJneo Family combines new fuel-saving engines, wingtip-mounted Sharklets and other improvements to give customers better fuel efficiency, greater range and a more modern product in which to invest - as well as the widest and tallest business-jet cabin in the sky.
The Airbus ACJ320neo can fly 25 passengers over 6,000 nm/11,100 km or 13 hours, while the ACJ319neo can transport 8 passengers over 6,750 nm/12,500 km or 15 hours.
Airbus' ACJneo Family is the only new, top-of-the-line, corporate jet offering the increased protection of fly-by-wire controls, Category 3B automatic landing, and runway overrun prevention and onboard airport navigation systems (ROPS and OANS).
More than 170 Airbus corporate jets are flying on every continent, including Antarctica, demonstrating outstanding reliability that is backed by unmatched worldwide support.
