WestJet confirms widebodies to arrive in 2015

WestJet has announced plans that could see it begin operating its first wide-body aircraft by autumn 2015. The carrier says it expects to operate four wide-body aircraft with the first deployments on routes between Alberta and Hawaii during the 2015/16 winter season.

"Westjet's current winter service between Alberta and Hawaii, operated using two B757-200s sourced from Thomas Cook Airlines UK, will end in Spring 2015," it said.

Further announcements regarding its planned wide-body summer 2016 schedule will be released at a later date.

While talks have taken place with both Airbus Industrie and Boeing, analysts widely believe WestJet will settle on the US manufacturer given the carrier's current all-Boeing fleet of thirteen B737-600s, sixty-nine B737-700s, and twenty-five B737-800s.
