On 11 April, the fifteenth birthday of Firefly Airlines, the airline relaunched its Boeing B737-800 operations. Originally, Firefly planned to launch jet-operations in early 2021, but this was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In March and in April this year, the airline took delivery of two B737-800s. They are 9M-MLG (msn 31779) and 9M-MLH (msn 31723) and are both coming from parent Malaysia Airlines.
With these Boeings, Firefly is opening new flights to Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching from its Penang International Airport hub.
Next to the two B737-800s, the airline is also operating a fleet of twelve ATR72-500s.
In the past (2014) two Firefly Boeing 737-400s paid a visit to Amsterdam-Airport Schiphol; 9M-FZA (msn 27001) in March (full colours) and 9M-FZB (msn 27003) in October (basic colours). Both were enroute to St. Athan for storage, after Firefly withdrew them from service.
