Six weeks after taking delivery of its first aircraft, a A320-200, Canadian leisure start-up Jetlines (CJL, Toronto Pearson) has announced it will launch charter-flight operations out of Toronto Pearson in summer 2022.
Parent company Canada Jetlines Operations Ltd said in a statement on April 7 that the carrier would operate at Canada’s biggest airport by capacity “with a fleet of Airbus family aircraft, starting with the A320,” to international destinations in the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. It did not, however, specify a more exact date. Other cities in Canada will follow.
The partnership with the airport “will allow us to better service both domestic and international travellers to and from Canada’s busiest airport,” said Jetlines CEO Eddy Doyle.
The “well-capitalised leisure-focused carrier” will start commercial flight operations subject to Transport Canada approval as the start-up continues to work on its certification drive. In December, it projected growth to reach a fleet of 15 aircraft by 2025. The first A320 is chartered from GLOBALX (GXA, Miami Int'l), its US-based former parent company, which itself operated its first revenue flight only last summer. GLOBALX shareholders hold a 25% interest in publicly-listed Jetlines.
