FitsAir (8D, Colombo International) has leased daily slots for services to London Heathrow from Oman Air (WY, Muscat) for the Summer 2023 season. However, as the transaction is for babysitting the slots, it is unlikely they will be utilised.
The Sri Lankan carrier, in theory, will be able to operate daily flights from Colombo to Heathrow using a 180-seat A320-200 aircraft between March 26 and October 28, 2023. FitsAir did not respond to ch-aviation's request to confirm whether it was planning to use the slots. The privately-owned carrier currently operates three A320ceo jets and one ATR72-200(QC) on scheduled services from Colombo to Malé, Dubai International, and Chennai.
Oman Air currently operates daily flights from Muscat to London Heathrow using B787-9s, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows. The slots leased to FitsAir were for a second daily rotation.
Slot babysitting allows airlines to temporarily lease their slots to another, usually non-competing or non-operating carrier, to avoid using them due to their non-use.
