Air India, owned by the Tata Group, has officially announced that it is the carrier behind a previously undisclosed order placed with Airbus for 10 A350-900 aircraft and 90 single-aisle A320neo family aircraft. The formal announcement, made on December 9, 2024, adds to an order for 40 A350s and 210 A320neo family aircraft placed by Air India in 2023.
Air India began its A350 operations in January 2024. This marked the entry into service of this Airbus wide-body aircraft in the Indian market and is already flying the aircraft on its main long-haul routes to London Heathrow Airport (LHR). and New York. In addition to the six A350-900s it has already received in 2024, the carrier also currently operates 101 A320neos and 14 A321neos, alongside 30 older generation A320 family aircraft.
