On 6 January 2025, Maldivian took delivery of its very first widebody-aircraft. Airbus A330-203 8Q-IAB (1161) arrived on this date at Malé from Singapore and was welcomed with a water salute by the airport's fire brigade. Previously, this A330 was in use with Airhub Airlines as 9H-PAX (September 2022-July 2023) and with KLM as PH-AOM (October 2010-October 2020).
Maldivian is planning to use its A330 on new routes to China, with Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai being considered as destinations.
Before welcoming the widebody jet, the airline's fleet was made-up of two ATR42-600s, two ATR72-600s, one A320, eleven DHC-6s, one DHC-8-100, and four DHC-8-300s.
