Reunion's Air Austral eyes US charter flights


Air Austral (UU, St. Denis de la Réunion) has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for exemption authority and a Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) ahead of plans to start commercial flights to the United States.
The application states the Indian Ocean-based carrier plans to use its fleet of B777s and B787s to operate charter flights to the US ferrying persons, property, and mail. No further details were disclosed.
At present, Air Austral operates five B777-300(ER)s and two B787-8s on regular passenger flights from Reunion to the neighbouring islands of Dzaoudzi and Mauritius as well as Paris CDG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, and Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta internationally.
