Hong Kong Airlines has bravely decided to enter what must be one of the world’s most competitive airport routes.
The 2,070-kilometre route between Hong Kong (HKG) and Seoul Incheon (ICN) is already served by seven other carriers; Cathay Pacific Airways (37 weekly flights), Korean Air (28), Asiana Airlines (27), HK Express (26), Jeju Airlines (14), Eastar Jet and Jin Air (both with daily flights). Hong Kong Airlines began flying the route on 16 December with a daily service using a mix of A330-200s and A320s. Li Dianchun, CCO, of Hong Kong Airlines, said: “We are excited about the successful launch of this new route in Seoul. Hong Kong people have been very fond of Korean culture, gourmet and sceneries. This new route launch further strengthens Hong Kong Airlines’ network in the Asia Pacific, bringing more options at great prices for passengers. We are hoping more travellers will discover different faces of Seoul, hence encouraging more cultural, tourist and business co-operation between the two cities.”
