Eurowings confirms Munich base plans in 1Q17

Eurowings (EW, Dusseldorf) has confirmed it will establish a third German base - in Munich - during the course of 2017.
The budget carrier said in a statement that it would base four aircraft - presumably some sourced via parent firm Lufthansa Group's wet-lease deal with Air Berlin (AB, Berlin Tegel) - out of the southern Bavarian city in March. The thirty-two destinations to be served from Munich include: Amsterdam, Paris CDG, Geneva, London Stansted, Basle/Mulhouse/Freiburg, CH, Edinburgh, Nice, Rome Fiumicino, Thessaloniki, Naples Int'l, Pula, Zadar, Catania, Dubrovnik, Faro, Glasgow Int'l, Heraklion, Kavala, Lamezia Terme, Mykonos, Olbia, Palermo, Rhodes, Bastia, Cagliari, Ibiza, Kerkyra, Porto, Brindisi, Kos, and Palma Son Sant Joan.

According to Lufthansa Group Executive Board Chief Officer (Eurowings), Karl Ulrich Garnadt, the LCC will study the possibility of launching longhaul flights out of Munich from 2018.
At present, Eurowings maintains bases at Dusseldorf and Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel with plans to develop its presence at Cologne/Bonn, Hanover, and Stuttgart Echterdingen.

Munich is currently a base for Transavia Airlines (HV, Amsterdam), the budget unit of Air France-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
