Cambodia Angkor Air now serves the world’s second busiest airport

On 16 December the Cambodian carrier began three times weekly flights between Siem Reap (REP) and Beijing (PEK). The 3,215-kilometre route will be flown by the airline’s A320s and faces direct competition from Sky Angkor Airlines’s three times weekly service. Cambodia Angkor Air now operates a total of 19 weekly flights between Cambodia and five airports in China. It already serves Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanning and Shanghai from Siem Reap. Between Cambodia and China the carrier currently accounts for 16% of weekly seat capacity, beaten only by China Southern Airlines’ 27% share. A total of 10 carriers link the two countries, of which eight are based in China. These eight carriers account for 71% of the market at present.
