The 12,751-kilometre sector will be served by the airline five times weekly, up from the three times weekly frequency it served in 2014, on its 777-300s. Joining Virgin Australia on the city pair is Qantas (eight weekly flights) and United Airlines (daily). Group Executive of Virgin Australia John Thomas said of the launch: “We are delighted to commence services between Melbourne and Los Angeles, bringing the Virgin Australia flair and sophistication to this route. Los Angeles and North America is an important market for us and through our partnership with Delta Air Lines, we offer passengers 25 return flights per week across the Pacific. Delta will also codeshare on our Melbourne services.” With the resumption of flights between Melbourne and Los Angeles, the carrier now serves four international routes from Melbourne, with a fifth, Hong Kong, scheduled to begin on 5 July. The airline also serves Los Angeles from Brisbane and Sydney.
