Oman Air (WY, Muscat) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paul Gregorowitsch has confirmed the carrier is planning to acquire fifteen widebody jets to replace its fleet of four A330-200s and six A330-300s.
Speaking to Bloomberg news, Gregorowitsch said further discussions will be held with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare), as well as lessors, next week concerning A350s or more B787-9s.
The report claims the Boeing offering has an advantage over that of Airbus given Oman Air already operates four B787-8s and two B787-9s. A further four -8s are due to deliver from Boeing in 2018. The A330neo offering is of no interest, the CEO noted.
Concerning the carrier's incoming order of twenty B737 MAXs, Gregorowitsch said deliveries will proceed as expected but that an undisclosed number of its existing B737NextGen fleet will be leased out to better match capacity to demand.
Concerning future cooperation plans, Gregorowitsch said Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt Int'l) is among several potential candidates for a joint-venture partnership.
