Airbus A330 Becomes Flagship Aircraft for Fiji’s National Airline
A330 comfort, efficiency and reliability set the foundation for Air Pacific’s new identity of ‘Fiji Airways’.
Air Pacific, Fiji’s national airline, has formally rolled out its soon to be adopted new ‘Fiji Airways’ identity with the delivery of its first new A330-200 aircraft. Whilst the carrier will officially adopt the ‘Fiji Airways’ brand in June, the aircraft will begin commercial services on April 2nd. The aircraft was officially accepted by Nick Caine, Air Pacific’s CFO, at Airbus’ delivery centre in Toulouse.
The aircraft is the first painted in Fiji Airways’ striking new livery depicting traditional Fijian symbols of welcome, caring and connection of its people to their islands. The livery was designed by celebrated Fijian Masi artist Makereta Matemosi.
The aircraft is the first from an order for three A330-200 placed in 2011 to replace Air Pacific’s B747s and B767s with newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft.
“We are determined to become the airline of choice in the South Pacific. Our distinctive livery conveys the warmth and hospitality of our home. Our passengers will experience superior comfort with our state of the art cabin products once we start commercial operations with the A330 in April, with even better features and products to be rolled out once we become ‘Fiji Airways’ in June. The A330 is the most fuel efficient aircraft in its category and allows us to optimise our network and modernise our fleet to ensure future growth,” said Dave Pflieger, Air Pacific’s Managing Director and CEO.
“We are delighted that the Airbus A330 was chosen as the “canvas” on which to launch the airline’s new brand “Fiji Airways”, said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer – Customers. The A330 offers the best operating economics and the most sumptuous cabin of any aircraft in its category and will serve Fiji Airways well in their ambitious growth plans.”

The A330 Family, which spans 250 to 300 seats, and includes Freighter, VIP, and Military Transport/Tanker variants, has now attracted more than 1,200 orders, with around 900 aircraft flying with some 90 operators worldwide. Ever since the original version of the A330-300 entered service, the hallmark has been its very efficient operating economics. Thanks to the introduction of numerous product improvements, it still remains the most cost-efficient and capable aircraft in its class and the family is achieving average dispatch reliability above 99 percent.

Airbus delivers 100th aircraft in Japan
Jetstar Japan welcomes its 10th A320
With the latest delivery of an A320 to Jetstar Japan, the total number of Airbus aircraft delivered to Japanese carriers has risen to 100, underscoring the rapidly growing number of Airbus single-aisle aircraft in the country.
In just nine months since beginning operations in July 2012, Jetstar fleet has grown to 10 aircraft. Airbus delivered its first aircraft to a Japanese carrier in 1980 (an A300B2) and in the last two years deliveries have accelerated rapidly. In 2012, Airbus delivered a total of 16 A320s, and in 2013 nearly 30 A320s (28) will be delivered to four Japanese operators.
This success is being boosted by new low cost airlines, all of whom have chosen an all Airbus fleet for their operations. In the years to come deliveries to Japanese carriers will also include A330s and A380s.
“Jetstar Japan is pleased to receive its 10th A320 and also congratulates Airbus’ 100th aircraft delivery in Japan,” Jetstar Japan President Miyuki Suzuki said. “With an increasing Airbus single-aisle fleet, we are in an excellent position to benefit from this growing market and to expand our business sustainably.”

Jetstar Japan started operations in July 2012. The company is a joint venture between the Qantas Group, Japan Airlines (JAL), Mitsubishi Corporation and Century Tokyo Leasing Corporation. Jetstar Japan now operates an all-Airbus fleet of ten leased A320s, and this will grow to 24 aircraft by the end of 2014.
As of today, over 9,100 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold worldwide and over 5,400 aircraft delivered to more than 380 customers and operators, making it the world’s best selling commercial jetliner ever.

Airbus delivers 100th A380
Sixth aircraft for Malaysia Airlines handed over in Toulouse
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Airbus together marked a major achievement, with the hand-over of the 100th A380 to MAS at Airbus’ Henri Ziegler Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is the sixth A380 for MAS.
“We are delighted that our 100th A380 delivery is to Malaysia Airlines as this gives us an early glimpse into the future shape of aviation,” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and CEO. “We see a growing demand from dynamic, competitive airlines such as MAS for larger aircraft, with many markets and routes, and in particular in the fast developing Asia-Pacific region, being ideally suited to A380s.”
Now in its sixth year of commercial service, the A380 is flying with nine world class airlines. To date, the worldwide fleet has carried some 36 million passengers in 100,000 flights. Previous generation Very Large Aircraft (VLA 400 seats and above) would have required 140,000 flights. This reduction in flights brings essential relief to airport-congestion and the environment. The corresponding saving of 5.7 million tonnes of CO2, demonstrates the A380 generates more revenue whilst minimising emissions and noise.
The A380 fleet performs over 140 flights per day and carries over one and a half million people each month. Passengers can hop on board one of the A380s which are either taking off or landing every six minutes at one of the 32 international airports where it operates to date. On top of these, more than 50 other airports are getting prepared to accommodate the A380 and answer the airlines’ need for more A380 destinations.
Over the next 20 years, more than 1,700 VLA such as the A380 will have been delivered. Asia Pacific leads demand (45 percent) for these high capacity aircraft, followed by the Middle East (23 percent) and Europe (19 percent).
Typically seating 525 passengers in three classes, the aircraft is capable of flying 8,500 nautical miles or 15,700 kilometres non-stop, carrying more people at lower cost and with less impact on the environment. The spacious, quiet cabin and smooth ride have made the A380 a firm favourite with passengers, resulting in higher load factors wherever it flies. Since 2006 the A380 has registered repeat orders by satisfied customers every year, bringing the total order book to date to 262 from 20 customers

On top the A380 demonstrates a 12 per cent fuel burn reduction compared to its nearest competitor.
Over 36 million passengers have already enjoyed the unique experience of flying on board one of the 1oo A380 delivered so far. With 140 flights per day to date, the entire fleet has accumulated by now 100,000 revenue flights and 850,000 flight hours.

"Our passenger loads have doubled in the year and a half since Transpac purchased Mokulele," explains Mokulele Airlines CEO Ron Hansen. "Since passenger demand is so great on all of our flights, we made the decision to purchase two additional Cessna Grand Caravans. We're currently offering about 80 flights per day and the new aircraft will make it possible for us to offer more than 100 flights per day between Oahu, Maui, Lanai, Molokai and the Big Island."
The fleet expansion will enable Mokulele to increase service between Honolulu and Molokai and Kahului and Hana airports on Maui. "We'll be hiring and basing more pilots out of Honolulu and hiring more customer service agents there, too," Hansen says. Mokulele already offers more flights in and out of Molokai, Kahului and Kona than any other airline serving Hawaii.
Mokulele will take possession of the new 2013 model year, nine-passenger Cessna Grand Caravans in March and April. The new aircraft will be equipped with the latest Garvin avionics equipment.
"We're very grateful that the enthusiastic response we've received from Hawaii's residents and visitors has made it possible for us to expand our service to them even further," Hansen concludes.

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that the development of the CSeries aircraft is making excellent progress as the program readies to transition to the flight test phase in order to achieve first flight by the end of June 2013.
“We are very pleased with the progress being made on the CSeries aircraft program and we are excited to open our facility and publicly show the world the advances and key milestones we have achieved as we get ready for first flight,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.
“The CSeries aircraft program is making solid progress, having met a number of key milestones over the last few months. We are delighted that Pratt & Whitney recently achieved Transport Canada type certification of its first PurePower Geared Turbofan™ engine, the PW1500G engine that will power the CSeries aircraft, and we are now focusing on three key areas that will lead to our safety-of-flight permit: static airframe testing, building of flight test vehicles and on-the-ground testing,” added Mr. Arcamone.
Media and financial analysts will have the opportunity to get a first-hand look at the first CSeries flight test vehicle (FTV1), Complete Integrated Aircraft Systems Test Area (CIASTA) and various technology displays following today’s program update at Bombardier’s CSeries final assembly facility in Mirabel, Québec.
Extra capacity seating option
Bombardier also confirmed today that it has introduced an extra capacity seating option that will increase the CS300 aircraft seating to up to 160 passengers, providing customers with additional payload and range flexibility, as well as increased productivity. It also confirmed that Latvia-based airBaltic is one of these customers, having selected a 148-seat higher-density version.
The CS300 aircraft’s systems’ capacity has been increased to accommodate a higher passenger count. The extra capacity seating option, which requires the addition of a second pair of over-wing exit doors, will be available both in-production and as a retrofit should customers need that flexibility in the future.
“Our main focus continues to be the development, optimization and marketing of the CSeries family of aircraft in the 100- to 149-seat market segment. The CSeries aircraft is a game-changer in a changing economic environment, and following keen customer interest and market trends, we have enhanced the productivity of the CS300 aircraft further by offering the extra capacity seating option,” stated Mr. Arcamone.
“Specifically adapted for airlines looking at further increasing the productivity of their aircraft, the extra capacity seating option enables the CS300 aircraft to offer the highest seating capacity in its market segment, with the best-in-class seat mile costs and comfort. We are pleased that airBaltic has selected to purchase this new option for its CS300 aircraft,” added Mr. Arcamone.
“We are delighted to select the extra capacity seating option and the additional pair of over-wing emergency exit doors. In keeping with our ReShape business plan, we are taking full benefit of the aircraft’s cabin design as we look to further increase the productivity of our CS300 aircraft and our network,” said Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer, airBaltic.

British Airways Announces Los Angeles to London as First A380 Route
NEW YORK, March 5, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- British Airways' first Airbus A380 will fly from Los Angeles to London Heathrow, with tickets going on sale today.
Los Angeles will be the inaugural destination for the first A380 to be operated by a UK airline. The double-decker superjumbo is due to be delivered to British Airways in July and seats are now on sale for flights from Oct. 15, 2013.
In celebration, the airline is launching an offer from Los Angeles. Fares in World Traveller economy start at $830 roundtrip. World Traveller Plus, the airline's premium economy, begins from $1380 roundtrip.
Continuing the celebrations, Club World business class fares begin from $3,800 roundtrip. All fares include taxes, fees and carrier charges.
A380 enthusiasts eager to be on the very first commercial services should note that dates for these will be announced once plans for training flights are completed.
The second A380 route will be to Hong Kong and customers can book flights now for travel from November 15, 2013.
The airline's website, www.ba.com, will feature information on the new aircraft, including computer generated imagery (CGI), and a short film will be available via youtube to give customers a feel for the aircraft. Customers can book via ba.com, by calling 800 AIRWAYS or by visiting a local travel agent.
The A380 will be the largest aircraft in the British Airways fleet, accommodating 469 customers across four cabins. Customers in First will be seated at the front of the main deck. The cabin will offer 14 seats and is evolved from the current First class. Club World (business class) customers can choose from 44 seats on the main deck, or 53 seats on the upper deck. These upper deck seats will feature a new 2:3:2 configuration across the cabin. The 55 World Traveller Plus (premier economy) seats will be located on the upper deck while World Traveller (economy) customers can choose seats on both the main and upper deck. Both cabins will feature the airline's current design, which is now flying on the new B777-300ER fleet.
The aircraft's innovative design makes it much quieter during take-off and landing and more fuel efficient than its predecessors. British Airways has ordered 12 for delivery by 2016 as part of a [Pounds]5bn investment over five years in new aircraft, smarter cabins, elegant lounges, and new technologies to make life more comfortable in the air and on the ground.
Keith Williams, British Airways' chief executive, said: "This will be a very special premiere. The A380 is a great aircraft that has been developed with huge amounts of British engineering ingenuity. London and Los Angeles are two world-leading cities, and we are proud to be the first airline to connect them with the A380."
The arrival of the A380 has entailed a multi-million pound redevelopment of British Airways' Heathrow engineering base to support maintenance of the world's largest commercial aircraft type. This included two 24-ton roof 'eyebrows' being lifted into place in one of the hangars to raise the height of the entrance to accommodate the A380's 24-meter tailfin.
