European Coastal Airlines to open seaplane base in Split, Croatia

European Coastal Airlines has been granted a concession by the municipality of Split to establish a seaplane hub in the city's quarter of Matejuska from May onwards.

Following ten years of negotiations, the operator says it will connect the Dalmatian Coast and Italy in a bid to boost tourism in the region. Talks with Italian tour operators have already been held with services between Hvar and Pescara and Ancona in Italy likely to launch before year-end.

Further plans include connecting Hvar with Split, downtown Split, Dubrovnik, Korcula and Vela Luka on Korcula Island. ECA plans to operate DHC-6s and Grumman Gooses.
