American Airlines' First Dreamliner Spotted in Flight

American Airlines' first Boeing 787 Dreamliner was on the move Tuesday morning in Everett, Wash.

The 787-8 aircraft took off from the Paine Field at 9:12 a.m. local time (12:12 p.m. ET) for a test flight. The plane flew for more nearly three hours before returning to Paine Field around noon PT (3:00 p.m. ET).

Everett's Paine Field is adjacent to Boeing's Everett assembly lines and hosts many flights for the Boeing Company.

American initially had been forecast to take delivery of its first Dreamliner late last year, but that timeline has slipped. AA now expects to take delivery of the jet early this year.

"We expect to welcome our first 787 into the fleet in the first quarter of 2015," American spokesman Matt Miller says in a statement to Today in the Sky. "As with any first delivery of a new fleet type, there are a number of elements that have to be coordinated before it is introduced to ensure we deliver a state-of-the-art product for our employees and customers. We're working with our partners at Boeing to make it happen."
