Jazz Air (QK, Halifax) will increase its fleet by ten aircraft parent firm Chorus Aviation has announced. The Canadian operator said in a statement that the aircraft - five 78-seat Dash 8-400 turboprops and five 75-seat CRJ-705s - would be delivered in 2016 and early 2017 respectively and will be operated under the Air Canada Express brand as per Jazz’s Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA) with Air Canada (AC, Montréal Trudeau).
The five Q400s will be sourced by Air Canada and leased into the Jazz CPA operation. Sourcing for the CRJ-705s has not yet been finalized.
"The addition of these larger gauged aircraft will further help reduce Jazz's unit cost and increase its market competitiveness," Chorus Aviation said. "These aircraft are in addition to the fleet modernization plan currently underway as a result of the recently amended CPA with Air Canada which originally called for a minimum of forty-four Q400s and sixteen CRJ705s by the year 2020."
Under the revised plan, Jazz will now operate a total of forty-nine Q400s and twenty-one CRJ705s come 2020.
