Zimbabwe's Rainbow Airlines revises management, fleet plans

Rainbow Airlines (RAT, Harare Int'l) has revised its operational and executive structures ahead of its proposed entry into the Zimbabwean domestic and regional scheduled passenger market.

Using CRJ-100 ZS-CMR (msn 7326), on wet-lease from South African ACMI/charter operator, CemAir (5Z, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo), Rainbow Airlines will commence regular flights between Harare Int'l and Johannesburg O.R. Tambo on January 25. Other routes out of Harare to follow include Victoria Falls and Cape Town.
“CemAir will be leasing the first Bombardier CRJ100 aircraft to Rainbow Airlines, and then later additional CRJ aircraft will be added to the Rainbow fleet — CemAir has also offered Rainbow Airlines use of their Beech 1900D and Dash 8 Aircraft, to help service and grow the domestic routes in Zimbabwe,” recently appointed CEO and now former Accountable Manager at Fastjet Zimbabwe, Ed Berry, said.

Berry noted that Rainbow Airlines was also considering starting services to Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, Kinshasa N'Djili, Lubumbashi, Durban King Shaka, Beira, and Maputo.
“Later, international destinations and more domestic routes will be applied for, these will include Harare to Kariba, Bulawayo, Mutare, Hwange Town, Masvingo, Chiredzi and Beitbridge,” he added.
Rainbow completed its AOC last year but has twice failed to undertake long term, sustainable operations.
