JetSMART (Santiago de Chile Int'l) has taken delivery of its first aircraft, an A320-200, as it prepares to complete its certification requirements and launch. According to Skyliner Aviation, CC-AWA (msn 7595) was positioned to Santiago de Chile Int'l from Bordeaux via Gander and Kingston Norman Manley on June 14.
The nascent Chilean LCC is US low-cost carrier investment specialists Indigo Partners LLC's maiden foray into the South American market.
On the project's unveiling earlier this year, JetSMART's chief executive officer, Estuardo Ortiz, said he expected to secure an air operator's certificate (AOC) and launch operations later this year with three A320s growing to nine by the end of 2018. In terms of network, the airline will operate locally before expanding into the international market.
