Bakkafrost from the Faroe Islands, one of the world's largest salmon producers and fish exporters, announced plans to establish its own dedicated cargo airline. The carrier will be called FarCargo, referring to the long-haul operations and the origin of the company, and has acquired a single but yet unknown Boeing B757-200F.
FarCargo will utilize the Air Operator's Certifcate and expertise of West Atlantic Sweden for its flight-operations, which are planned to launch in the last quarter of this year. Today, West Air Sweden has no experience in operating the B757 but has operated the B767 in the past.
The plan is to fly out of Vágar to Israel, the United States and "other remote markets" to ensure the delivery of fresh salmon. On the way back to the Faroe Islands, the Boeing B757 is set to stop at various airports in Europe to pick-up cargo.
