Aer Lingus commenced its latest transatlantic route on 1 September, a 5,123-kilometre sector from Dublin to New York Newark

The Irish flag carrier will serve the airport pair daily using its 267-seat A330-200s on a year-round basis. Newark is one of three new destinations for Aer Lingus in North America this year. The carrier is planning to add flights to Hartford in Connecticut from the end of this month, while flights to Los Angeles resumed in May following an eight-year hiatus. Vincent Harrison, MD of Dublin Airport said the airport was delighted to welcome the second of Aer Lingus’ three new transatlantic services this year. “We have been growing our transatlantic traffic strongly at Dublin and passenger numbers have grown by 62% on these routes between 2010 and 2015.” Aer Lingus already serves New York with twice-daily flights to New York JFK. Its latest service to the Big Apple will face direct competition from United Airlines which in the summer offers a twice-daily connection to Newark. The Star Alliance member offers just a daily flight in winter. However, along with United’s direct competition and Aer Lingus’ existing JFK operation, it should be noted that American Airlines and Delta Air Lines also link Dublin to JFK.
