Malaysia's AirAsia to lease two Indonesian A330s

AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur Int'l) has announced it will wet-lease a pair of A330-300s from Indonesia AirAsia X (XT, Denpasar) over the coming months.

In a statement to the Malaysia Bursa, the LCC said it would induct PK-XRA (cn 716) into its fleet on a nine month-long contract running from September 16 to March 15, 2017. PK-XRC (cn 654), will begin service from October 1 through to November 30, 2016.

The leases, valued at a total of USD12.9 million, will allow AirAsia to increase capacity at slot constrained airports.

"For routes with [a] low load factor, AirAsia could reduce frequency, thus reducing fixed costs required to operate the route. Whereas additional capacity could be added for routes with high load factor to capitalise on the high demand," it said.
