VietJetAir celebrated the start of the winter season by launching its second route to Taipei Taoyuan

The Vietnamese LCC already serves the Taiwanese capital from Ho Chi Minh City (since December 2014) and has now added daily flights from Hanoi (HAN) using its A320s. The first flight took place on Sunday 30 October. Competition will be tough on the 1,630-kilometre new route as it is already being flown by Vietnam Airlines (10 weekly flights), China Airlines and EVA Air, each with daily flights. With another new service to Busan in South Korea beginning in mid-December, VietJetAir will be flying to 16 destinations non-stop from Hanoi this winter. According to OAG data, VietJetAir now has around 6% of seat capacity on international flights to and from Vietnam in W16/17, still well behind Vietnam Airlines with 33%. However, VietJetAir’s share of the domestic market is now 36% compared with Vietnam Airlines’s 46% and Jetstar Pacific Airlines’s share of 17%.
