SaudiGulf reveals jet type in major Boeing talks

SaudiGulf's fleet currently consists of narrow-body Airbus aircraft.

SaudiGulf Airlines is expected to finalise an agreement for up to 16 Boeing 777 airliners by the third quarter of this year, its chief executive said Wednesday.

The announcement comes after the Saudi airline previously confirmed that it was in talks to purchase new aircraft, but without any indication of the type.

The final agreement would include purchasing options with delivery of the 777s targeted from 2020, said SaudiGulf chief executive Samer Al Majali.

He added that the new aircraft would likely be used on the airline’s planned North America, European and Asian routes, if the airline could obtain international traffic rights.

SaudiGulf launched in 2016 and operates domestic flights between Dammam, Riyadh, and Jeddah and will start services to Abha next week.
