Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur Int'l) is set to deploy its new A350-900 aircraft on London Heathrow flights ahead of schedule, with a start date of January 15, 2018, ch-aviation analysis of schedule data has shown. The new aircraft, due for delivery by year-end, will replace the A380-800 aircraft currently used on the route, which will be redeployed to Hajj operations.
The six incoming A350s are leased from Air Lease Corporation. They had originally been expected to be deployed on Heathrow routes starting 2Q18 but are now expected to start on January 15.
As previously reported, Malaysia Airlines intends to launch its dedicated Hajj and Umrah charter unit, currently called "Project Hope", and will retrofit its six unwanted A380 aircraft into all-economy layouts. The first of its A380 Hajj flights this year from Kuala Lumpur Int'l to Madinah commenced this week aboard 9M-MND (msn 089) and 9M-MNE (msn 094).
