SWISS’ Zurich to Malta

SWISS introduced four new services from its Zurich (ZRH) hub last week, starting on the 1 July with the launch of operations to Malta (MLA). Flights on the 1,378-kilometre sector will be flown four times weekly, using a mixture of the carrier’s single-aisle Airbus aircraft. The route faces direct competition from Air Malta. Commenting on the launch, Alan Borg, Malta Airport CEO, said: “SWISS is the fifth new airline to have been welcomed at Malta this year. This is another testament to the hard work of all stakeholders involved, as we strive towards another record year. Connectivity is a crucial element for our passengers, and SWISS offers great opportunities in this respect, because it adds Malta to a network that includes destinations like New York, Bangkok and many others globally”. The following day, 2 July, the Star Alliance member launched services to Brindisi (BDS), Izmir (ADB) and Santiago de Compostela (SCQ). All three of the seasonal airport pairs operate thrice-weekly using A320s, and all face direct competition according to OAG Schedules Analyser data.
