TransAsia Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Japan Due to Mechanical Failure

A TransAsia Airways (GE) flight from Taiwan with 272 passengers onboard made an emergency landing at New Chitose Airport (CTS), Japan on Tuesday noon, due to mechanical failure, according to Japanese media reports.
The incident occurred on an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, Registration B-22101 performing flight GE670 en route from Taiwan to Sapporo when problems arose with the plane's systems. The A330-300 aircraft touched down at New Chitose Airport shortly after 12:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
The airport confirmed the incident and said the flight landed safely at around 12:20 p.m. Affected by the incident, one of two runways had to be temporarily closed until the aircraft was being towed back to the gate for "possible oil leak".

All 272 passengers and 13 crew were safely evacuated from the plane once it landed at the runway, TransAsia Airways said, denying Japanese media reports that the plane had made an emergency landing. The Airbus A330-300 landed safely at Chitose Airport at noon, as scheduled, but the aircraft was unable to taxi to the gate due to a problem with the aircraft's hydraulic braking system, the airline said.

The return flight, scheduled to take off at 1:15 p.m., with 192 passengers, was delayed until Tuesday evening. Passengers have been arranged properly by the airline.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
