American Airlines expands its long-haul offering with the addition of three new routes on 7 May, all of which are served daily

The oneworld member introduced its third and fourth route to the UK from New York JFK (JFK), linking the US gateway to Edinburgh (EDI) and Birmingham (BHX) using its 176-seat 757-200s. American already flies to London Heathrow (thrice-daily) and Manchester (daily). In addition, the carrier started its second route to Beijing (PEK), joining its existing Chicago O’Hare daily flights, this time with 247-seat 777-200 operations from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW). American will face no direct competition on any of the three new routes. Commenting on the route launch to the Scottish capital, David Thomas, Sales Director UK and Ireland, American, highlighted: “The market in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas has a really nice mix. There is an entrepreneurial spirit so a lot of SME companies that are travelling to New York and then on to Los Angeles and San Francisco. We are excited to launch this service and we are confident it will be very popular.”
