Hainan Airlines, China's fourth largest carrier, has filed an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to extend its Chongqing-Rome service to Haikou, Hainan Province starting March 2016.
Pending government approval, the Haikou-based carrier will operate its Airbus A330/Boeing 767/787 aircraft on the Haikou-Chongqing-Rome service, with two flights weekly, according to an announcement released on the website of the CAAC on Feb. 18.
Hainan Airlines officially launched the Chongqing-Rome route in April 2015, using a 242-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
The Air Transportation Department of CAAC is soliciting public comments on the application until Feb. 24, 2016.
