Revamped aircraft to feature new business class 'Sky Suites'

The new JAL Sky Suites

Japan Airlines (JAL) has started rolling out new seats on its international fleet of Boeing 777s.

The airline has revealed that new business class ‘JAL Sky Suites’, which have previously been introduced on its B787 Dreamliner and B777-300ER aircraft, will now start being fitted to its fleet of 11 B777-200ERs. These aircraft will also be equipped with new premium economy and economy class seats.

The revamped aircraft will be deployed on routes from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Bangkok, Singapore and Honolulu.

Premium economy

The JAL Sky Suites are 198cm-long flat-bed seats that will be configured in a 1-2-1 layout, ensuring that all passengers have direct aisle access. The seats come equipped with 17-inch TV screens – significantly larger than the 10.4-inch screens currently offered on the B777-200s – plus a power outlet and USB port.

The new premium economy class will be configured in a 2-4-2 layout and seats will have a pitch of 107cm. All seats come with 12.1-inch touchscreen monitors. And finally the new economy class seats, which are configured in a 3-4-2 layout, offer an 84-86cm pitch and come fitted with 10.6-inch seatback screens.
The roll out of the new seats will reduce the total capacity of the B777-200ER aircraft to 236 seats – 42 in business class, 40 in premium economy and 154 on economy – compared to the current three-class configuration of 245 seats.
