KLM continued its expansion this week with the launch of two new long-haul routes from Amsterdam (AMS), adding to its inauguration of short-haul services to Genoa and Valencia the previous week. On 3 May the SkyTeam member commenced services to Astana (TSE), a 4,434-kilometre sector which will be flown four times weekly, with two rotations operating via the carrier’s existing Almaty service according to OAG Schedules Analyser data. No other carrier currently serves the city pair. On 5 May KLM launched flights to its latest destination in the US in the form of a twice-weekly service to Salt Lake City (SLC), an 8,003-kilometre sector which is already served by Delta Air Lines five times weekly. “We are absolutely thrilled to have KLM’s new route to Amsterdam,” said Maureen Riley, Executive Director for the Salt Lake City Department of Airports. “It’s further evidence of a growing market in Salt Lake City, a robust economy that we have here, and the demand that we have for access to international destinations.” The airline will increase services on the sector to thrice-weekly from 4 July. Both of the SkyTeam member’s new routes will be operated by its A330-200 fleet.
