Virgin America commenced services on the 4,105-kilometre route between Los Angeles (LAX) and Honolulu (HNL) on 5 May. Served by the airline’s fleet of A320s, the airport pair will face direct competition from Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and United Airlines, which combined offer 107 weekly flights according to OAG Schedules Analyser data. Honolulu becomes the airline’s 13th route from Los Angeles, with a 14th launching on 14 June to Kahului, also in Hawaii. Honolulu is already served by Virgin America from San Francisco.
