China Southern Announces Services to Rome, Dubai and Christchurch

China Southern Airlines (CZ), the largest carrier in Asia by passengers carried, announced Thursday it will launch three new international services from its Guangzhou hub to Rome, Dubai and Christchurch by the year end.

The carrier will launch the Guangzhou-Wuhan-Dubai service in mid November, with the Guangzhou-Wuhan-Rome and Guangzhou-Christchurch services to be launched in mid December.

The Guangzhou-based carrier said it now operates 96 routes to 52 destinations in 34 countries and regions along the "One Belt and One Road" - the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road", offering 544 flights per week, up 12% year on year.

The to-be-launched Guangzhou-Wuhan-Rome service will be the airline's first route to Italy, and the first route linking the origin and the destination of the Maritime Silk Road. The flight will be operated thrice weekly using the Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

The airline already has a daily non-stop flight between Guangzhou and Dubai. It will start Guangzhou-Wuhan-Dubai service in November, to provide more convenience for travelers between the two places.

In addition, the carrier will launch a non-stop flight between Guangzhou and Christchurch in mid December. It will deploy the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Guangzhou-Christchurch service, offering three flights weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The carrier said it plans to add its capacities in the New Zealand and Australian market in the winter schedule, increasing the frequencies of Guangzhou-Sydney to 21 flights weekly from 14, Guangzhou-Melbourne to 18 from 14, Guangzhou-Brisbane to 7 from 5, and Guangzhou-Auckland to 14 from 10. By then, the airline will have 70 flights weekly to Australia and New Zealand.
