Tianjin Airlines (GS, Tianjin) has become the latest Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) subsidiary to announce plans to start longhaul, widebody operations.
President Liu Lu told a press conference at its inaugural Tianjin-Tokyo Haneda service that Tianjin Airlines will add its maiden A330 early next year ahead of plans to serve Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. The aircraft will be sourced via parent firm, the HNA Group, he said.
Should it go ahead, the move will mirror that by sister carrier Capital Airlines (China) (JD, Beijing Capital) which will start Copenhagen Kastrup flights next month using an ex-Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) A330-200.
Founded in 2009, Tianjin Airlines operates eighteen A320-200s, fifty EMB-190s, and twenty-two ERJ-145s on flights throughout China as well as to Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Russia, and Taiwan.
