LATAM Airlines Group, official supporter of the Olympic Torch Relay Rio 2016, is bringing calls
directly from Switzerland
The Olympic flame arrived in Brazil with a LATAM-branded Boeing 767 aircraft landing smoothly on Tuesday, and it now begins a three month relay around Latin America's biggest country ahead of the Games in Rio this August.
The 767-300ER aircraft, registration PT-MSY, departed Rio de Janeiro for Geneva on May 1 on a one-off journey to collect the Olympic flame. It departed Geneva at 10:45 p.m. on May 2 and arrived in Brazil at 6:30 a.m. on May 3. In order to mark the arrival of the symbolic flame in Brazil, two F-5M fighters from the Jaguar Squad escorted the airliner to this capital and overflew the National Congress and the Esplanade of Ministries.
On May 5, the first three commercial flights of aircraft with the new LATAM image will operate the following routes: São Paulo-Santiago; Santiago-Lima; and São Paulo-Brasilia.
LATAM unveiled its new livery in late April, after it announced in 2015 a new branding integrating both LAN and TAM. The carrier's combined fleet will be entirely repainted by 2018.
